Overall Focus

Muscle is a soft tissue found throughout the body that responds to internal and external cues to produce work by generating force and motion. This is accomplished through exquisite coupling of electrical, chemical and mechanical elements within individual muscle cells that allow for cellular contraction. Each contraction ultimately results from the sliding of actin filaments (green) by tiny myosin molecular motors (blue), in a highly regulated manner. Our lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms that regulate these interactions at the molecular and cellular levels in both human health and disease.
