MPP Internship Requirement & Waiver Procedure
As part of graduation requirements, all Master of Public Policy (MPP) students must complete 400 internship hours.
ELIGIBILITY:
Students interested in waiving the internship requirement must meet the following to be eligible:
Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a direct policy setting and currently work with the same organization (i.e., part-time, full-time) while attending the MPP program OR
Minimum of 4 years of work experience in a direct policy setting prior to entering the MPP program OR
A student of a concurrent/ dual degree that has rotations/clinicals/experiential learning component in the respective degree
REQUIRED FORMS & DOCUMENTS:
Students must submit the following documents in 1 PDF file to be considered for a waiver:
A one-page statement explaining how the public policy work experience requirements have been met to waive the mandatory internship hours
A current resume/CV
Important instructions: Students must email all of the materials to mppadvising@luskin.ucla.edu. The subject line should be "MPP Internship Waiver Request- [YOUR FULL NAME]"
Deadline: Students should submit their waiver request no later than the start of Winter quarter during their second-year in the MPP program
Course Enrollments: If your request to waive out of the internship is approved, then you do not need to enroll in PUB PLC 496. However, you must enroll in a 4- unit graduate level public policy related elective to fulfill the unit requirement.

Students must complete the supervisor evaluation form and internship agreement form for each internship site and submit the MPP Internship Form once. These forms should be submitted only after students have enrolled in PUB PLC 496 and they have completed all internship hours. Deadline to submit all the the forms: end of Winter Quarter of the 2nd year in the MPP program.
