Rules Discussion
Over the past month there has been some email discussion on the club thread of rules. Members present at the club meeting discussed several things including the use of “trim” tabs on various types of planes. The one that did come out of that part of the discussion that it would be fair to limit or prohibit the use of tabs that increased the surface of wings or stabs for classes of planes that limit the number of square inches allowed for the size of the wing and or stab. The club does list rules for planes for each category on the club website. It was suggested that it might be good to have a general section of rules that apply to contests in general.
Contest Events Discussion
With the number of junior flyers present at the contest this past Sunday, a robust discussion of a junior event or events was opened by Ken Forner who brought 5 of his grandkids, and kept them entertained the whole time. The overall consensus was that we want to encourage junior flyer participation. Organizing events specifically for them and offering prizes were two of the things that came out of the discussion. Andy and Jim brought up the fact that the club has given out prizes in days gone by for junior events, things like kits for planes, balsa wood, and tissue for covering.
Several of Ken’s grandkids have built flying models that they brought flew at the contest on Sunday. Dennis Batty brought up organizing an event around building and flying Sky Bunny’s that he has done with a church group and his grandkids. He will share plans with the club. Gary Peterson has a booklet written about building and flying the Sky Bunny that he will share with the club. More to come on this.
Other contest event discussion included talk of adding a dawn unlimited event to two or three of the outdoor contests. Unlimited events are flown at AMA Nationals in Muncie and is a one flight winner take all event. The event would be at 7:30 in the morning. More to come on this idea.
No show and tell at this meeting. Think about something for next month’s club meeting even if it is only partially finished.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15PM
