MIS 303 Intro to Business Information Systems, UG, Avg. class size 60

This course teaches students to think digitally in business: How do firms do business in a digital age? Why do businesses utilize data? What data can strengthen the competitive advantages of firms? What technology do they need to store, process, and analyze data to extract meaningful insights? Using real-world examples, I aim to show the importance of digital literacy for organizations and professionals. Students gain exposure to analytical and database management tools in the process.

Student 19

Thank you again for a wonderful semester, you left me with a much better understanding of management information systems overall and taught the class in a way that really worked for me and I'm sure the majority of the class.

Student 18

I wanted to thank you for an amazing semester. I really enjoyed your class, and thank you for always being kind, understanding, and helpful!

Student 17

I appreciate your drive to receive feedback, it expresses your desire to teach effectively and improve your own skills. Additionally, I appreciate that all of our homework has been highly relevant to our topics and exams. I feel that many professors would be inclined to assign "busywork" in this class, as it has been rather light in terms of homework.

Student 16

Thank you for how clear you are.

Student 15

The professor's energy made the class fun.

Student 14

I enjoyed the actual enthusiasm for the course it didn't feel like this was just a paycheck and it helped the engagement.

Student 13

Moreover, I wanted to express my gratitude for your guidance and support throughout this semester. The knowledge you shared, especially on SQL, has been invaluable. I've already applied what I learned in my current internship, which has made a significant difference.

Thank you once again for your dedication to teaching and for your mentorship. I am looking forward to staying in touch and, hopefully, crossing paths again in the future.

Student 12

I also wanted to take the chance to thank you for orchestrating an informative and professional course this semester. I have gained a lot of skills that I can directly apply in my Accounting Assistant role at FCPS under your instruction. Some of the excel skills we learned especially have helped me in my daily routine. I truly appreciate it!

Student 11

I also just wanted to say thank you for the semester, your very organized and straightforward approach to teaching was very appreciated and made this class easy to follow and I knew every week what was expected of me. And thank you for being so understanding and flexible throughout the semester as well. I wish you well and have a great summer professor!

Student 10

I expected to continue learning about mostly computer applications like excel and access. I'm glad we started the course the way we did by learning terms and models first, so we had an informational background that pertains to what we are learning in the applications.

Student 9

When I signed up for this class, I was told by a friend that it is a computer heavy class. What I was expecting from day one was to be working with programs. Overall, so far I like the way the class has been taught.

Student 8

The course organization is well laid out and easy to understand/follow. The provided topics were interesting to learn about and I felt engaged in the class.

The straightforwardness and simplicity of the structure of this course have brought some comfort. I think the instructor has done a great job making the blackboard easy to navigate and making expectations very very clear, something lots of professors don't do.

Student 6

I believe that the course organization is good the way it is. I think that the information and topics we learned/discussed in class are pretty straightforward, I did not expect to listen to anything else.

#7

Dr. Petryk was very passionate about the course and was energetic in class. I enjoyed coming to class in the mornings because she showed passion for the material.

#6

Professor Mariia was great at giving us ample amounts of information and allowing us to work in groups for assignments so we could better understand the course content.

#5

Professor Petryk’s expertise in the subject matter helped me understand the material, as she explained all the concepts in a way that I could understand. She also provided a good mix of lectures, reading assignments, and group projects, so I felt as if I learned the material through many different mediums throughout the course. She also engaged students every class, so we got a sense of participation and collaboration which can sometimes be difficult with an online class.

#4

Professor Petryk does a good job of facilitating conversation with students throughout class.

#3

Great explainer, genuinely cared about students understanding the material, responded quickly, and met with me throughout the semester for the course.

#2

Well organized and made sure to engage the students, both via Zoom and in person, by asking questions that were easy enough that students wanted to participate while also engaging in further conversation about the topic.

#1

Great explainer, genuinely cared about students understanding the material, responded quickly, and met with me throughout the semester for the course.

Keeping in touch afterward

I'm incredibly proud of the number of students who reach out to me, sometimes years after graduation, to share an article, meme, or social media post that reminded them of something we covered in class. It’s always so rewarding to see that the ideas we discussed stayed with them and found relevance in their lives long after they left my classroom.
