BUNGOMA COUNTY AGRIBUSINESS POLICY 2023 LAUNCHED
Agriculture CECM; Eng. Herbert Kibunguchy,led the delagates in launching of the 𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 at Mabanga ATC. According to Kibunguchy,the policies are critical in ensuring sustainable agricultural practices, soil conservation, and food safety for communities.
Bungoma county Deputy Governor Pst.Janepher Mbatiany who graced the event added that the policies will enhance agricultural governance."We are proud to have officially launched the Bungoma County Agriculture Sector Policy 2023, an achievement built upon the successful formulation of the Bungoma County Soil Management Policy 2023, supported by GIZ ProSoil, and the Bungoma County Food Safety Policy 2023, supported by SAF Africa. The policies will also enhance agricultural governance, improve service delivery, and create a more structured and efficient agricultural sector in Bungoma.''

SEIZE OPPORTUNITIES,STAY DISCIPLINED - MBATIANY
Bungoma Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany has called on students to take advantage of educational opportunities, remain disciplined, and focus on their goals to secure a brighter future.
Speaking at Matili Technical Training Institute (TTI) during the launch of a kitty for needy students, Mbatiany underscored the county’s commitment to supporting education and skills development.
“Education remains the most powerful tool for transforming lives and communities,” she said. “This initiative is a testament to our shared commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial constraints.”
The newly launched fund aims to provide financial assistance to bright but needy students, preventing dropouts caused by economic hardships.
LREB UNVEILS 6.4 BILION CLIMATE-RESILIENT AGRICULTURE PROJECT
The Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) has launched a groundbreaking 6.4 billion project aimed at transforming agricultural value chains through climate-resilient, low-carbon farming practices.The project which was unveiled in Kisumu is expected to benefit over 2.7 million people.
Speaking at the launch, Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Lusaka, who also serves as the Vice Chair of LREB,said the project is a game-changer for the region’s agricultural sector.
"We are taking a bold step towards ensuring food security and economic stability for millions of farmers in this region," he stated.
The project, funded through a joint contribution by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Kenya (FLoCCA), the Danish Government, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), will focus on six key agricultural value chains: dairy, poultry, coffee, tea, fruit trees, and African leafy vegetables.''
TEREMI WINGS TO FLY

The TEREMI WINGS TO FLY scholarship program, an initiative that has been established to support top performing students from financially challenged backgrounds.With support from well wishers,the program offers access to leadership training to previously marginalized students where by the school pays complete fees for a bright students.
According to the Chief Principal of Teremi boys high school Mr. John Wakwabubi,the program offers personal needs,shopping and pay fees.
''We had a fundraiser where I was the guest of honor and we were able to raise Four hundred thousand{400,000}. There are students here who are very bright but are very needy,and MPs can give up to five thousand{5000} sometimes they give less for special bursaries,the county government has been giving them a full scholarship but due to financial challenges some were left out and are very bright even the best in class. Watching them drop out of school is very painful.''
Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka has urged political leaders to stop engaging “cheap politics” over the leasing of Nzoia Sugar Company, instead focus on the welfare of farmers and factory workers who depend on the mill for their livelihoods. Speaking during the funeral service of Mama Rhosa Makhandia, Lusaka said that some politicians are taking advantage of ailing sugar factory for political mileage.
“It is unfortunate that year in and year out, politicians use the misfortunes of Nzoia Sugar to gain cheap publicity. Meanwhile, our farmers remain unpaid and workers demoralized,” Governor Lusaka said.
The governor’s sentiments come amid renewed debate over the future of Nzoia Sugar, one of the key economic lifelines in the Western region.
CS BARASA LAUNCHES TUPANDE'S 2025 TREE GROWING INITIATIVE
Cabinet Secretary for Environment,Climate change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Barasa,has led the launching of Tupande's 2025 tree seedling distribution campaign in Ikonyero Kakamega County, reinforcing the government’s commitment to planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
Speaking at St.Patrics Ikonyero primary school in Kakamega,Barasa underscored the importance of adopting innovative strategies to address climate change, emphasizing that successful tree planting requires consistent care and maintenance. She called on local environmental champions and community groups to scale up tree planting as an investment in food security, economic resilience, and climate adaptation.
Dr.Barasa aloso echoed Tupande's efforts to come up with the programme which will tap about 80% of Kenyans who derive their livelihoods from agriculture and smallholders who produce crops for their household food supplies.
According to Tupande Director Michelle Kagari,in 2024 the Organisation distributed more than 55 million seedlings to more than 700,000 clients across the county through schools,hospitals churches and direct farmer outreach,not only variety for Timber but also fruits tree seedlings and provide employment.
"Tupande tree nursaries are run by a Tree Nursary Managerand in each nursary,Tupande employs 5 marketing agents to support the nursary owener to create awarness within the community.''
