HYPE-AM is a €1.1 million research programme launched in 2025, funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The project aims to develop hydrogen-resistant metallic materials through Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) by linking processing, microstructure, and performance using advanced characterization, modelling, and operando synchrotron experiments. By engineering and combining beneficial microstructural features, including grain boundary networks, crystallographic texture, dislocation structures and phase transformations, HYPE-AM seeks to establish microstructure-based strategies for mitigating hydrogen embrittlement and improving the durability of engineering alloys for hydrogen applications.
