The MP2G hosts a dedicated Additive Manufacturing Laboratory, fully equipped with the necessary peripheral equipment and safety infrastructure for metal powder processing. The laboratory features an AconityMINI Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) system, providing an open research platform for advanced materials development and process optimization.
Key Specifications
Technology: Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF)
Laser: 400 W single-mode fiber laser (1070 nm)
Laser spot size: ~50 μm
Maximum build volume: Ø140 × 190 mm
Reduced build platforms: Ø100 mm and Ø55 mm
The system supports research in additive manufacturing process development, alloy design, in situ monitoring, multi-material fabrication, and process–microstructure–property relationships.
We employ state-of-the-art electron microscopy together with synchrotron and neutron scattering and imaging to investigate materials from the atomic to the component scale. Through operando experiments during additive manufacturing, deformation, and hydrogen exposure, we quantify the evolution of microstructure, crystallographic texture, residual stresses, and defects, providing the experimental foundation for establishing robust process–microstructure–property relationships.
