The group is placed at Centro de Investigación Biomédica (University of Granada) focused in mainly in pancreatic cancer and KRAS mutations integrated into the CTS-963 unit. We also belong to the Tec-16 team at Ibs.GRANADA FIBAO.
Pancreatic cancer is still nowadays in desperate need of effective therapeutic strategies. Only 1% of patients will survive after 10 years of being diagnosed. The improvement of this dismal prognosis is our lab motivation and everyday challenge.
Specifically, we aim to tackle this dreadful reality by using in vivo and ex vivo models that faithfully recapitulate the genetic alterations commonly found in patients. In the lab, we have successfully developed and established orthotopic and metastatic syngeneic transplants using genetically-controlled organoids. These models accurately recapitulate different tumor microenvironment scenarios and genetic backgrounds. We are using them to tease out resistance mechanisms to gold standard therapies to reach our ultimate goal: improving patient stratification to tailored more effective treatment regimes in the clinic.
