We are developing open education resources(OER) for one SCC-110 Foundations of Chemistry course. The project that we are working on is developing Homework assignments with MyOpenMath(MOM) Platform. This semester we have developed five assignments that we implemented into ten sections of the classes. These assignments we used as extra credits.

In this talk we explain recent results relating the six-vertex model and the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class. In particular, we describe how the six-vertex model can be used to analyze stochastic interacting particle systems, such as asymmetric exclusion processes, and how infinite-volume pure states of the ferroelectric six-vertex model exhibit fluctuations of order $N^{1/3}$, a characteristic feature of systems in the KPZ universality class.

Second, we introduce a class of translation-invariant Gibbs measures that characterizes a one-parameter family of slopes for an arbitrary ferroelectric, symmetric six-vertex model. This family of slopes corresponds to what is known as the conical singularity (or tricritical point) in the free-energy profile for the ferroelectric six-vertex model. We consider fluctuations of the height function of this model on a large grid of size T and show that they too are of order T1/3 along a certain characteristic line; this confirms a prediction of Bukman and Shore from 1995, stating that the ferroelectric six-vertex model should exhibit KPZ growth at the conical singularity. be457b7860
