Q. What levels of competition are available?
A. MYSA offers a for-fun “recreational” soccer league. For more competitive “club” soccer experience, we have teams that play in the Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League as well as EDP through our MTFC Travel program. Our club teams do require tryouts and we encourage those to reach out to themtfc@gmail.com for more information.
Q. How are MYSA Recreational soccer teams formed?
A. Rec teams from U-5 through U6 are co-ed. U5 and U6 teams are formed based on coaches and board member breakouts. U7 and U8 teams are now combined by age and are single gender teams. Teams from age U9 through U19 can be same gender or coed teams depending on the needs of the Northeast Freedom Youth Soccer League.
Q. Can my child play up or down an age group?
A. No player may play down an age group. Requests to play up an age group are decided on a case by case basis, and these requests should be directed to the MYSA Board of Directors.
Q. Where are games and practices held?
A. For U5 through U8 Rec teams, all games are held on Mountain Top fields, and practices are held at a multitude of locations including fields at Dorrance Township Park, Fairview Memorial Park, Rice Township Park, Christ United Methodist Church, and the MYSA Soccerplex on Church Road. The MYSA Soccerplex is reserved primarily for games rather than practices to help maintain the playing surfaces there. Practices are normally held on the area’s several municipal fields. U9 through U19 Rec teams participate in the Northeast Freedome Youth Soccer League. They play their “home” games at the MYSA Soccerplex. Their “away” games are played in communities in the valley.
Q. When do we start to practice and play games?
A. Practices usually begin around the first of August. League games begin later in August. A typical schedule would include 1 or 2 practices and one game each week. There might be an additional weekday scrimmage for each team, for ages U9 and older, at the Soccerplex.
Q. How will I find out my child’s team placement and practice/game schedule?
A. Your child’s coach will contact you with this information as soon as the teams in your age group are formed and finalized. This usually happens before the end of July.
Q. What about requesting a particular coach or team?
A. A coach or assistant coach is assured of being matched up with his or her own child. Any player can request to avoid a particular coach, but requests to join a particular teams are not usually honored in our Rec program. Players who want to play on a particular team can tryout for a local travel team.
Q. What does my registration fee include?
A. A lot! It covers all the costs associated with running the league (field maintenance, building maintenance, line paint, balls, referee fees, etc.) plus a full uniform (shirt, socks and shorts) plus insurance (through EPYSA), fees payable to NEFYSL, and a full schedule of practices and games.
Q. Who can I contact if I have a question?
A. Feel free to write to MYSA at PO Box 102, Mountain Top, PA 18707. Or email a Board member, selecting the board member whose position seems most appropriate for your question or comment. (See contact list.) You are also invited to attend one of our monthly Board meetings, which are open to all coaches and parents. Board meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7: PM, usually at Cavanaughs Grille.
