A Postpartum Doula is a non-medical assistant trained to help families during the postpartum period. A Postpartum Doula works with each family individually to find out their particular needs.
Services Offered:
A Postpartum Doulas role may include, but is not limited to;
Breastfeeding support
Help with the emotional and physical recovery after birth
Light housekeeping
Running errands
Assistance with newborn care such as diapering, bathing, feeding and comforting
Light meal preparation
Baby soothing techniques
Sibling care
Help to educate and support the family on ways that support the mother during the postpartum period
Referrals to local resources such as but not limited to parenting classes, pediatricians,
Lactation support and other parenting support groups
Overnight care of the infant
Doula Term of Practice:
A Postpartum Doula provides evidenced based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, mother – baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care. The Postpartum Doula is there to help a new family in those first days and weeks after bringing home a new baby. A Postpartum Doula is not a housekeeper, nor a medical practitioner and will not perform any clinical procedures, outside of weighing the baby and assisting with breastfeeding and breastfeeding education. A Postpartum Doula does not assess for recovery of vaginal tears or cesarean incision recovery of the mother although she may provide traditional methods of helping the mother recover from birth, whether cesarean or vaginal, and will observe for signs of infection and/or postpartum depression, educating the mother on signs and symptoms regarding these issues. A Postpartum Doula may provide information for the new mother's partner in order to assist in observation for signs of infection and/or postpartum depression.
Obligations of the Postpartum Doula:
The Doula will be on call 2 weeks prior to the estimated due date, and will remain on call until the baby is born. She will inform the family of any overlapping in her schedule. The Doula agrees to work with her clients to the best of her ability for the term of the agreement. She is available to the family by phone, text or email. Scheduled work dates will be mutually agreed upon. In-home care of the mother, newborn & family includes (but not limited to) assistance with infant feeding, assisting mother in post birth recovery, diapering, bathing, teaching newborn care, newborn observation, baby wearing, preparation of nutritious snacks and meals for mother/family, assistance with meal preparation, support with sibling care and integration to the new family dynamics, infant laundry, running errands, light housekeeping, providing postpartum resources, overnight care, and other agreed upon tasks such as: _____________________________________________________________________.
Obligations to the Postpartum Doula:
The Client(s) need to let the Postpartum Doula know of any special needs, dietary concerns, or customs they may have during the postpartum period. The doula requires at least a 48 hour warning prior to beginning services, so she can make arrangements for her family. The clients will communicate needs and preferences with the Doula verbally and/or in a written form. They will inform the Doula if they are the carriers of any infectious diseases. If we release the Doula prior to the ( 3 ) hour minimum shift, we understand that the Doula will still be credited with ( 3 ) hours worked. The Postpartum Doula asks for the Client(s) to be flexible as well since sickness and other events could happen in her life. Doula will be paid for services on a weekly basis, on the last day of services for that week. If she is running errands or shops for the family she will be reimbursed for purchases daily.
Fees for Services:
A deposit of ( $ 200 ) will be due upon the agreement of this contract.
This deposit will be applied to the consultation and first week of care.
In the event that you choose to to cancel your care, the deposit will not be refunded.
Postpartum Doula Day Shift Fee- $35 an hour
Postpartum Doula Night Shift Fee- $40 an hour
Services are anticipated to begin around the date of ( / / ), Services may begin 2 weeks before or after this date.
The doula requires at least a 48 hour warning prior to beginning services.

Failure to Provide Support:
The Postpartum Doula will make every effort to be with the Client at the scheduled times. If she is not able to come due to sickness or other emergencies (including attending another birth as a Birth/Labor Doula if she is on call) there will be no charge for the missed services, or the Doula will refund the fees for the missed services. If there is a back-up Doula available, the Client may choose to have that Doula come in her place with the same fee obligation. The Client(s) will be informed in advance if there is an overlap and the Postpartum Doula is on call for another family as a Birth/Labor Doula.
