Placenta Encapsulation is the process of preparing the birthing persons placenta for personal consumption after birth. The ingestion of the placenta, or placentophagy, is a common practice all across the mammalian world. The purpose of placentophagy after birth is to reintroduce beneficial vitamins, minerals, hormones and other nutrients back into the body. Restoring this balance is said to increase breast milk production, increase energy levels, shorten healing time, balance hormones and mood, providing an overall feeling of well being to aid in the transition between pregnancy and early postpartum.
Service Description:
Within 24 hours after the birth of your baby, the placenta is picked up from your place of birth and transported on ice. Following proper safety and sanitary procedures your placenta will be cleaned, prepared, dehydrated, ground to a powder and encapsulated. Your capsules will be delivered to you within 72 of hours of pickup.
Limitations/Disclaimer:
I am not a medical professional. I am not able to diagnose, treat, or prescribe for any health condition. My services and fees are for the preparation and encapsulation of your placenta, not for the sale of the capsules themselves. No specific benefits or effects are promised and benefits will vary from person to person. While some of the benefits of placenta consumption have been supported by research; however these benefits have not been evaluated or approved by the U.S. government or FDA. It is your responsibility to determine whether placenta consumption is an appropriate choice for you.
Placenta Restrictions:
It must be understood that there may be situations in which your placenta is not safe to consume.
Significant abnormalities of your placenta make it necessary for your placenta to be sent to pathology for testing and further investigation. You can always request that a placenta sample be taken in your room and then the sample can be sent to pathology. This way your placenta never leaves your room and is not compromised. This may or may not be possible.
You are required to inform your encapsulator if you have any health conditions which may affect the health of your placenta or anyone who may come in contact with your placenta.
Any sign of infection during labor may make your placenta unsafe to consume.
An amniocentesis during pregnancy compromises the placenta and makes it no longer safe for personal ingestion.
Upon examination if I doubt the safety of you consuming your placenta, I will consult with you immediately and we will make an appropriate plan together.
Client Responsibility:
Contact me when you are in labor and again once baby is born. A simple text is fine. Time is of the essence! Please let me know as soon as possible so I can make arrangements to pick up your placenta within 24 hours of birth.
You will need to properly store your placenta. If you are in the hospital check if the rooms have mini fridges, many do. You will need two gallon sized freezer Ziplocs to put your placenta in and multiple others for ice. You will also need a small ice chest if there is no fridge available. (See Transportation and Storage section)
Discuss your plans for your placenta with your care providers prior to the onset of labor. You may need to sign a release form. This is best discussed at a prenatal appointment and added into your birth plan.
It is your responsibility to inform me of any STD’s, STI’s, blood-borne/genetic disorders, or any other restriction as listed above. This important not only to my health and safety but to yours and your baby’s as well. Please provide a copy of your blood panel taken during your current pregnancy.

Preparation Methods & Other Products:
There are two types of placenta preparation available: Yields 100-200 capsules
Traditional Chinese Method: Placenta is lightly steamed before dehydration. This type of preparation is believed to help more with emotional energy, although there are still positive effects on physical energy. If the placenta had to be frozen for any reason, this type of preparation is still safe. $275 or $225 for birth clients
Raw Method: Requires a very fresh, non frozen placenta. Must be prepared within 48 hours of delivery. Raw preparation maintains the protein and enzymes within the placenta. Said to help more physical elements and energy. Still has a positive impact on emotional balance.
$250 or $200 for birth clients
Other Products Available:
Tincture: Made with organic vodka. Lasts indefinitely, though should be stored in a cool and dark place. Can be used later when the mothers menses return, even during menopause! If the baby born was a girl it can be used when she begins her cycle. Some people use their tincture during times of stress and illness. Tinctures need to infuse for 6 weeks, so you will need to swirl it daily, strain the contents with a cheesecloth after that time, discard the solids and return to the dropper bottle provided. $30 for a 4 oz bottle
Placenta Salve: This is beneficial to the birthing person and baby. Can be used in place of any other soothing balm. Useful for stretch marks, soothing to the perineum after birth, cesarean incisions, most skin irritations, minor wounds, baby acne, diaper rash, cradle cap, eczema, etc!
