The Fenix Glider
The Fenix is a glider designed to maximize distance traveled for a simulated competition.
- Canard-Design -
The Fenix glider has a canard design. This means that the the lifting surface that would normally be behind the main wing is in front. This makes it so the canard (the forward lifting surface) is not stabilizing! One benefit of the canard design is the canard will stall (in gradually pitching maneuvers) before the main wing, thus it is a "stall-safe" design.
- Materials -
The Fenix glider is made from foam, a wooden dowel, and tungsten ballast.
You can find the description of the glider and general write up in this document.
