Dr. Hundza received her BSc in physiotherapy from University of Alberta and PhD at University of Victoria. She is currently an Associate Professor (Kinesiology) and Adjunct Professor (Medicine) at University of Victoria. She has an extensive clinical background in physiotherapy in the area of geriatrics, neurology and orthopaedics. Dr. Hundza primarily studies the neuromechanical control of gait, posture, and balance in older adults and other clinical populations, with the ultimate goal of developing and enhancing effective rehabilitation strategies to promote functional locomotion and mobility as well as fall prevention.
Marc Klimstra is an Associate Professor of Biomechanics at the University of Victoria and the Lead of Innovation & Research for the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI-Pacific). Klimstra works alongside his students and collaborators on multiple projects related to technological development and performance modeling in elite athlete and older adult populations.

Dan is from Victoria BC and has been a member of the MML lab since graduating with his Bachelor of Education in 2018. He is a PhD student in the lab, studying performance power and velocity modeling on elite athletic populations ..As a result of conducting this research, Dan has explored a number of programming languages focusing on biomechanical analysis and application design.
As he continues his studies, Dan has also been working in the Greater Victoria School District as a teacher, instructing Physical Health Education, Senior Mathematics, and Physics courses. Dan is also a sessional instructor in EPHE.
Kaya is a graduate student currently working on a longitudinal falls prevention study aiming at predicting the risk of fall in older adults by looking at differences in gait initiation. Born in Japan and raised in Santa Cruz, California and Victoria BC, Kaya has always loved living on the coast. Outside of academia, she enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors as much as possible! Kaya completed her B.Sc. in Kinesiology at the University of Victoria, and did her honours with the MMRL lab working on a similar project. Kaya is passionate about exercise as a form of medicine, rehabilitation science and human biomechanics, leading to her involvement in this lab. She also enjoys teaching these concepts, as she is also a TA for EPHE 201: Qualitative Analysis of Human Movement, as well as EPHE 341: Biomechanics. Beyond her masters, Kaya plans to continue on in higher education and research in this field.
Molly is a graduate student who joined the MML after receiving her Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from the University of Alberta in 2020, majoring in Sport Performance and interning with the varsity hockey strength and conditioning program. Her research at the U of A focused on the autonomic neurophysiology of low-altitude natives and Nepalese Sherpa at high altitude, as well as creating a research bridge between trabecular remodeling in astronauts and individuals who have experienced paralysis as a result of spinal cord injury. Alongside her MSc studies, she is the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach for Team Canada Women's Sitting Volleyball and the UVic Vikes Track, Swimming, and Women's Rugby teams. Molly's MSc research is focused on sports biomechanics, specifically force and velocity characteristics (force-velocity profiling) in high performance athletes. She is passionate about using research to help other sports practitioners make evidence-based training decisions, and contribute to the advancement of high performance sport in Canada. In particular, Molly is interested in advances in the biomechanical understanding of women's and para-sport.
Veda is from Victoria BC and is currently a fourth year student at the University of Victoria, studying kinesiology. She is new to MML this year and will be taking part in the administration and participant management areas of the falls prevention study! Additionally, Veda is starting her Honours Project with MML, expanding on our previous research by looking into the use of high-level balance outcome measures for falls prediction. Veda's interests in academia all revolve around the human body and how it functions. Outside of academics, Veda work as a part-time paramedic and volunteers as a hockey coach and safety trainer. Her future aspirations include attending medical school and becoming a physician. For now, Veda is really looking forward to gaining more research experience in the MML Lab!
Emily grew up in Pitt Meadows B.C. Throughout her childhood, she trained and competed as both a dancer and gymnast. After high school, Emily moved to Victoria to start her undergrad at UVic. Emily is currently a third year Kinesiology student; she is starting an Honours project with the MML. For her honours project, Emily is validating inertial measurement units for temporospatial gait parameters in older adults. Emily's academic interests are constantly evolving; they currently include human anatomy, biomechanics, and organic chemistry. After she completes her undergrad, Emily hopes to go to medical school. When she manages to take a break from studying, she enjoys running, hiking, and baking cookies. She is also always down to chat about Python!
Nanami is an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Science Kinesiology program at the University of Victoria. She is originally from Tokyo, Japan, and moved to Canada in 2016 for higher education. She is grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the lab as an honours student. Nanami is considering going into either massage or physiotherapy in the future. Growing up, she trained as a rhythmic gymnast for 13 years; later, the experience led her to coaching children in Canada. She likes being in nature, taking photos, experiencing new cultures, and baking. Kneading dough is one of her top methods of stress release!
Marie is a fifth year Kinesiology major from Kelowna, BC with a passion for reducing barriers to physical activity in all demographics. In the lab, Marie helps out with a little bit of everything, but primarily provided support to our participants during data collection and processes the data after collection. When she's not in the lab or studying, she can likely be found in the kitchen cooking up her next greatest recipe or exploring Victoria on foot or by bike. Moving forward, Marie hopes to pursue a career in public health to facilitate the implementation of exercise for health wellness on an administrative level because of how passionate she is about exercise as medicine and movement to maintain mobility.
Deanne is a fourth-year student in the kinesiology program at the University of Victoria. She is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and moved to Victoria in 2017 to attend university and fulfill her dream of living near the ocean. She is passionate about rehabilitation science and anything to do with human movement. Deanne is excited to be joining the lab as a research assistant and is hoping to pursue a Masters of Science in physical therapy or kinesiology in the future. Although she quit gymnastics at the age of 7 and is extremely prone to injuries, she hopes to one day perform a successful backflip!
