Take-Home Kits

Each kit includes a self-guided lesson plan and supplies. Choose from one of the options below or give me a topic of interest and we will work together to customize a program for your unique needs. One kit is recommended per child.

$5 per kit for you to do at home or in your classroom at your convenience.

Seed Sorting and Comparing

Seeds are used to practice sorting by size, shape and color, counting, and to apply the concepts of “biggest” and “smallest,” “most” and “least,” and “same” and “similar.” Students practice using fine motor skills.

Cost: $5 per kit

Sensational Sun

Students make predictions about the temperature in the sun vs. in the shade, use shapes to create patterns on special sun-sensitive paper, and plant sunflower seeds.

Grow Your Own Garden

Includes seeds, soil, containers, and instructions for growing your own vegetables or flowers (several easy-to-grow options available) .

Build a Terrarium

Includes everything you need to make your own terrarium, minus the pill-pugs (you collect those yourself with some easy tips!)

Cost: $5 per kit

Anemometer

Includes all supplies needed to build an anemometer so student can practice measuring wind velocity in a variety of settings.

Cost: $5 per kit

Tree ID Using a Dichotomous Key

Students use a dichotomous key to identify trees and to understand the basics of how plants are classified. Includes a "Common Trees of Ohio" field guide to keep.

Fossils

Includes a sample of a real Ordovician fossil, reference sheet of easy-to-find fossils in the Cincinnati area, and everything you need to make a mold and cast "fossil" to keep.

Make a Bird Feeder

Use this kit to make a birdfeeder out of upcycled material. Includes bird seed to get you started and a "Common Birds of Ohio" field guide to keep.

Parts of a Plant

Dissect a lima bean seed and flower with step-by-step self-guided instructions to learn about the different parts of a plant and how a flower makes seeds.
