The Memories
Our Journey started in the year 2000. In 2000, it was decided that a collective festival of the Region could be organised. In pursuance of the above aspiration, in December 2000, supported by faculties from North East Region, a three-hour program was held in the Institute in the Courtyard of Boys hostel for the first time. The programme ended with a collective feast with various North-East cuisines. Since then, MOSAIC has not looked back, and every year it has been organising a collective programme of North-East Indian students and scholars of the Institute.
In 2007, another important aspect of the festival was added; a lecture series was introduced with support from the Institute, especially Prof. Parasuraman, Director, TISS. The Formerly Dean of the Department of Law, Guwahati University, (Late) Prof. Sanajaoba Naorem, presented the first lecture series on “Human Rights Situations in Northeast India”. The second lecture series was delivered by Dr Bimol Akoijam, Associate Professor, Centre for Study of Social System, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Formerly Associates of Centre for Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi, on the theme “Celebrating Ethnic Diversity”.
In 2010, a panel discussion was introduced as part of the MOSAIC.
In 2018, another milestone was the panel discussion on the theme, “Changing Face of North East India: From Land Lock to Corridor (North East as a region and where it stands on the Geopolitical Space of South Asia and South East Asia).’’ The Panelists are IFS Gautam Mukhopadya, a former Ambassador to Myanmar (2013-2016) and Dr R. Debarma – Assistant Professor, Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, TISS, Guwahati. And the discussion was led by Prof. Lhungdim, Department of Public Health & Mortality Studies, IPS, Mumbai.
The Covid-19 Pandemic broke the chain of this beautiful Annual Mosaic Fest for two consecutive years, 2021 & 2022.
The TISS Mosaic Fest 2023 is a revival of nostalgia & reconnecting to the broken chain. It is the 21st celebration of the Annual Mosaic Fest. A Panel discussion was conducted on the theme, "Culture and Development in Northeast India". The Panelists were Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Centre for the study of Social System-JNU, Dr Raile Rocky Ziipao, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences-IIT Bombay, and Dr Alex Akhup, Centre for Social Justice and Governance-TISS. A Film Screening and discussion was done. The "Village Rockstars",- A film by Rima Das, was Screened.
