Why I Became a Nurse
I became a nurse to help people and their families through their health crisis, the darkest and scariest times in their lives. I chose nursing based on my own personal experience having to navigate the healthcare system during a loved ones critical illness. The support and strength of the nurses inspired me to become one; I wanted to be able to provide support to those in need and to advocate when my patients and families need it the most.
My Nursing Philosophy
I believe, as a nurse, everyone should be treated as equals, therefore, should have fair and equitable access to healthcare, regardless of where they live, their race, gender or religion as well as their socioeconomic status. I feel my most important role as a nurse is to be the patient’s advocate. To provide them with a voice when they feel like they are not being heard, to fight on their behalf for proper healthcare or the attention that they need, but most importantly, to work with the patient towards a mutually agreed upon goal of achieving the best possible health outcome.
