My Journey So Far
My Journey So Far
I love being a nurse, I truly feel like I was destined for this calling in my life. I started off late in my career, becoming an Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at 33, a Registered Nurse (RN) at 39 and now in pursuit of my Masters in Health Services with a leadership focus at Athabasca University. One of the many great things about being a nurse is that it entails a job with life long learning opportunities.
Aside from being a student, I currently work full time as an RN in a busy emergency department. As a nurse in Ontario, I am governed by a regulatory body called the College of Nurses of Ontario and I must maintain my license under their organization in order to practice within the province.
I currently work in Scarborough, a neighbourhood in Toronto. Scarborough is a multicultural and diverse neighbourhood and I love working with the residents of this community. Unfortunately, Scarborough is also greatly unserved and questionably under funded by our health care system. Please see the attached link for the Youtube video "Love, Scarborough" , a campagin initiative launched by the Scarborough Health Network to bring to light their current situation. The video features Scarborough residents adressing their concerns for the healthcare systems in Scarborough and the much needed community support in order to bring it up to the standards if the other GTA hospitals.
I am also very fortunate to be a wife as well as a mother to a beautiful and clever daughter. I live a very full and busy life but I would not have it any other way!
