Classic paintball owes its roots to the late 1980's and early 1990's paintball tournament scene. Paintball had progressed beyond the early days with oil based paintballs and single fed tube markers.
Promoters like Jim Lively and Debra Dion Krischke promoted events that would give players a complete paintball "experience" beyond the confines of the field of play. Paintball itself became a community and was receiving more widespread acceptance.
We, as a sport has one drawback - We sought to take paintball out of the woods and out of the camouflage. We wanted to shed was, by many perceived as para-military training. In New Jersey, Ray Gong was fighting along side with the IPPA to keep the state from banning paintball all together.
In leaving the woods, we lost a small piece of what made this sport so special and unique.
Tim Montressor, was instrumental in helping to bring back the classic style paintball events, along with many other such as Kevin Donaldson, Jerry Braun and Tom Cole.
Tim's Iron City Classic hearkened back to the NPPL days from the mid to late 1990's. Players were given the game back. Many of the sports top teams and legendary players returned to fall in love again with the sport they remembered from their youth.
