HistoryAtlanta was founded in 1837, it was originally called Marthasville in honor of the governor's daughter. Atlanta remains a crucial transport hub not just for the state or the country, but for the entire world. Although the South has been viewed for its old racist sentiments, often being referred to as the "Heart of the Confederacy," Atlanta is rebuilding a "New South" that focuses on civil rights, becoming more open-minded, and rebuilding a new future for the South.
