Monomoy WritesHistoryAlbany, New York, was founded in 1682, making it the second oldest chartered city in America. It was founded by Henry Hudson in 1609, and it is where his voyage came to an end as he traveled down what is now known as the Hudson River. Fort Nassau was built in 1614, serving as an outpost for fur trading for the Dutch West India Company in Manhattan.
Why Albany?Albany was chosen as New York's capital instead of NYC because of its more centralized location and role as a transport hub/ military hub during the French & Indian War.
