IntroductionOn May 15th, the annual MRHS Spring Concert was put on, and the talent showcased by the band and choir students completely blew all expectations. Between the impressive tracklist, stunning solos, and flawless group performances, the night was nothing short of amazing. Here’s a full breakdown of the show. ChorusThis year’s combined choirs delivered powerful renditions of several pieces, including MLK, Gather At The River, All Too Soon, Departing Blessing (featuring soloists Asher Porter, Dante Rosetti, and Boden Mabile), Take Me To The Water, and the traditional Haitian piece, Peze Kafe. The Select Choir offered beautiful performances of Shenandoah and I Will Arise & Go, yet the combined choirs' performance of Peze Kafe was likely the definite highlight of the evening. Concert BandThe concert band kept the momentum high with thrilling performances. Their set included Eire by Melanie Donahue, Turn the World Around by Harry Belafonte and Robert Freedman (arranged by Michael Brown), and Daedalus' Labyrinth by Sean O'Loughlin. These performances, anchored by this band, were splendid additions after the jazz band's play. Jazz BandSpeaking of the jazz band, they were technically the ones to open the night, and as always, they set the stage for a great show. Their performance included Bluesette by Toots Thielmans, a medley of 1970s hits (Spinning Wheel, Pick Up The Pieces, and the Mission: Impossible Theme, all arranged by Wayne Naus), and an original by Naus titled Hymn For Humanity. These songs hold a special place and feature solos from seniors Thomas Marchio and Benjamin McGrath. ConclusionReflecting on this concert and past events like the Pops and WinterConcert, it’s clear MRHS students have delivered joy and excellence all year. Their dedication transforms months of practice into unforgettable moments. I can’t wait for next year’s performances—you shouldn’t miss them either.
