Abstract
This semester, I learned a lot about geology and how it works. My goal was to complete my ePortfolio and do well in the class by staying on top of my reading, asking questions, and being hands-on in class. While I didn’t meet all of my goals due to challenges with my home and family life, I am proud of what I did accomplish. I worked hard on my ePortfolio and learned a lot, but I wish I had been able to memorize rocks better and turn in more assignments on time. Overall, I feel like I did the best I could and earned a B in the class.
Introduction/Background
When I started this class, I didn’t know much about geology other than that it is the study of the Earth. I was excited to learn about rocks, the Earth’s layers, and how it all connects to the world around us. Geology is important because it helps us understand things like volcanoes, earthquakes, and even how the environment works. This class was also designed to help us practice skills that are useful for any future, like being organized, solving problems, and managing time.
Goals/Objectives
My SMART Goal for this semester was to know more about geology and how it works. I wanted to complete my ePortfolio and do a good job on it. To reach this goal, I planned to stay on top of my reading, ask questions when I needed help, and participate in class. I also wanted to turn in assignments on time so I could get help if I needed it and not feel overwhelmed. My plan was to do my homework on the same day it was assigned and work on assignments a little each day. If I met all these goals, I expected to earn an A in the class.
Methods
To work toward my goals, I attended class when I could and participated in hands-on activities like identifying rocks and studying plate tectonics. I worked on my ePortfolio to organize and show what I learned throughout the semester. I asked questions when I didn’t understand something and tried to stay on top of assignments, although I struggled with this at times due to my family responsibilities.
Results
By the end of the semester, I learned a lot about geology, but I didn’t fully meet my SMART Goal. I completed my ePortfolio and am proud of how it turned out, but I didn’t memorize rocks as well as I wanted to. I also struggled with turning in assignments on time, which made it harder to keep up. However, I did stay engaged in class activities and asked questions when I needed help. I feel like I improved in understanding geology and how it connects to the world, but there is still more I could have done.
Conclusion/Discussion
This class has helped me develop useful skills like organizing my work, solving problems, and managing my time better. It also made me more curious about how geology impacts everyday life, like understanding places I’d love to visit, such as Hawaii, or why recycling is important. I am most proud of my ePortfolio because it shows the effort I put into this class. If I were to grade myself, I would give myself a B. I think this reflects my hard work and what I accomplished, even though I didn’t meet all my goals. My teacher might agree with this grade because they know the challenges I faced and saw the quality of my work.
In the end, I enjoyed this class and learned more than I expected. I feel good about the effort I put in, and I’m excited to keep learning about the Earth in the future!
