We all like logical linear flow rather than a labyrinth in course design
Course Content such as files, links, pages, assignments, quizzes is grouped thematically together.
Predictable course design is easier for the students. Would you rather have a student spent 15 minutes looking for the right file or spend this time engaged in the course material.
You can use text headers "Overview" and "Learning Activities" to communicate important content and break up the module
Lock the module and release on specific date
Create requirements:
viewing an item
submitting an assignment
scoring a certain grade on a quiz or an assignment
before they can open next module
You can also assign a module to a particular student for review
