My Momentum
Welcome to my Momentum, I am Pedro Arcelus Arrillaga, PhD in Chemical Engineering and passionate about sustainable energy in particular renewable fuels. Joining the Momentum programme and ICB-CSIC is a milestone in my career as it will provide me with the digitalization tools and the support of a world-class research group to bring my research into thermochemical biofuel production to the forefront at global level. The goal of this project is to develop machine learning and artificial intelligence models in combination with first-principles to understand and optimize processes for the sustainable production of aviation fuels.
Motivation
Aviation Fuel Consumption 2025 - 2040 Forecast per Source *
The aviation sector has revamped in the last few years, reaching pre-pandemic levels with nearly 10 billion passengers in 2024. Furthermore, the industry is anticipated to experience sustained growth, with passenger volumes expected to increase by 185% by 2040, compared to 2024 figures.** This requires the development of technology to enable the improvement of air transportation from the efficiency of the aircraft's to the sustainability of the fuel. This is especially important to mitigate the environmental impact of CO2 emissions from fossil-derived aviation fuels. It is expected that sustainable aviation fuels will progressively substitute fossil fuel in the aviation sector, estimating a 20% of the share by 2040*.
