Aptamers are nucleic acid receptors that bind a target ligand, such as a small molecule. A primary research direction involves creating new RNA aptamers for small molecule drugs or drug-like compounds using a combination of directed evolution (in vitro selection/SELEX) and rational design approaches, wherein we seek inspiration from naturally occurring aptamers called riboswitches.

We aim to design or discover small molecules that interfere with activity of specific RNA targets with therapeutic applications.

Another research direction is the design and synthesis of novel heterobifunctional molecules, which induce proximity of two targets within the cell to create desired therapeutic effects.
