3rd. Edition Breaking imaginaires
As part of Women's Day celebrations, on March 9th, we hosted the inspiring event "Breaking Imaginaries" in Vic. The day featured nine powerful talks from women of Moroccan descent, each excelling in different fields, along with three group activities that fostered discussion and engagement.
Our president, Olfat Khannous Lleiffe, opened the event by presenting MO'ED and its mission. Following this, Asmae Boushah, one of the event's coordinators, introduced the day's agenda.
The mentors came from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds, including a nurse, a pre-doctoral bioinformatics researcher, a linguistic expert, a pharmaceutical expert, a food and biosystems engineer, a quality department head who also leads a solidarity association, a self-entrepreneur, a primary school teacher, and a social educator.
During the event, these mentors shared their career journeys, current roles, and the challenges they faced along the way. Key struggles included a lack of representation, difficulties finding work while wearing the hijab, financial hurdles, and personal doubts. Despite these challenges, they inspired the audience to push forward with self-confidence and resilience.
The day’s activities kicked off with a speed-dating session designed to break the ice and help attendees connect. Participants were then divided into groups, where they created canvases reflecting their challenges, sources of motivation, and influential role models. This was followed by a collaborative exercise to craft motivational phrases through discussion.
The final activity, "Making Us Visible," paired 50 women with 50 milestones, discoveries, and achievements by women throughout history. The event concluded with a delicious snack provided by the La Mà Solidària association.
