Now read the explanation on the right which lists 6 ways auxiliary verbs are used in English to increase fluency, provide emphasis and sound more natural.
Now do Exercises (a) and (b).
When you are sure you have done the best you can, check yourself by listening to these audio-answers:

Read the text well, as this could be part of the exam: so look up words you don't know and write them in so they are handy. This suggestion applies to all readings: all readings can be used in the exam.
This information is useful also for when you listen for information in Italian.
GO TO THE PAGE OF ANSWERS UNIT 1B TO CHECK YOUR ANSWERS.
Now look at your own signature and analyze it according to what you heard in these four audios. Be ready to use the language of this exercise in a writing task below: Part 1 of Assignment 1
At the top of this page, you will see an orange area. Read the explanation about the the...the...+ comparatives construction in English. This construction does not exist in Italian so pay attention to it, as it is a very common construction and is a very effective way to communicate ideas.
Then do Exercises (a) and (b) on the right. When you have finished, use THIS AUDIO to check your answers for Exercise a.
This is another feature of English which is not found in Italian: compound adjectives.
Follow the instructions in Exercise 8a and complete the missing gaps. Go back and listen again if you need to.
When you have finished, check yourself using THIS AUDIO (Audio 1.21). Double-check yourself by going to the Page of Answers.
Now read the explanation in the orange box about how compound adjectives are formed. Notice where the stress on such compound adjectives are when you say these phrases.
Read the instructions in Exercise 8c and look at the 11 compound adjectives which can be used to describe personalities.
CLICK HERE to access Audio 1.22 to listen to how these compound adjectives are pronounced.
Then, to make sure you really know what each of these compound adjectives means, look them up on Google Translate.
Now read the explanation in the orange box of Exercise 8e. These are important and very common modifiers of personality adjectives. Study these carefully because you will need them to complete Assignment 1.
Look at how these modifiers are used in the 8 phrases in Exercise 8f. Again, insert these entire phrases into Google Translate to double-check that you have correctly understood each of these extremely useful "modified personality adjectives".
Use all the information and language you have encountered in this Unit and combine them into a single report. Think of a person you really do not care for. Pretend that you have been an Office Manager and have worked with this person for 5 years. Imagine that you have been asked to write a confidential report on this person because this person wants a transfer to a very important position. Use all the information regarding "personalities" from the reading and listening tasks, and use the grammar forms (the...the + comparative*) and of course all the vocabulary you have learnt, to write a 50-60 word report about this person. When you have finished, upload a DOC file onto a freely accessible and free platform (e.g. Google Drive) and send us the URL to this document. Make sure you NAME this FILE as follows: YOURNAME-YOUR STUDENT NUMBER-MODULE NUMBER-ASSIGNMENT NAME ( e.g MARIOROSSI-STUDENTNUMBER-M1A-A1)
When you have written it and uploaded it, send us the URL through this Google Form.
If you choose this assignment, the due date for this assignment is Tuesday, October 25th 2022
To consolidate what you have learnt, complete the Workbook exercises of Unit 1B. In particular, those on page 176. After completing these exercises, use the Workbook Key to check yourself.
If there are "correct answers" you do not understand, write these down as "workbook problems": we will talk about these when we meet.
Once you have finished the Workbook Exercises, then you are DONE with Unit 1B.
