About Us
Modrokkr was started in 2015 by Mitchell Bunnell and Vik Sohal. Prior to Modrokkr, Mitch and Vik have co-founded 2 other companies - Lynx Digital Systems and Pixelux Entertainment.
Modrokkr is the result of over 30 years of experience in building hard real-time systems as well as advanced three-dimensional compression algorithms for highly realistic visual simulations. At Lynx Digital Systems, Mitch wrote a real-time version of UNIX called LynxOS which became a popular embedded operating system that is used in everything from mission-critical aerospace applications to medical scanning equipment. Vik worked at Lynx in engineering as well as marketing and sales and was instrumental in winning the NASA Space Station Freedom contract which played a big role in the company's expansion. At Pixelux Entertainment, Mitch managed a team of engineers to develop tools and simulation software for the real-time finite element simulation called Digital Molecular Matter, or DMM. Vik found the opportunities for DMM at LucasArts as well as MPC and Sony Imageworks among others for real-time gaming as well as AAA film destruction simulation. In 2015, DMM won the Scientific and Technical Oscar for the Pixelux and MPC teams . DMM was also used by LucasArts for their hit games "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" 1 and 2 as well as within Remedy Entertainment's "Quantum Break".
MPC and Sony Imageworks have used DMM in countless blockbuster films for ultra-high-fidelity destruction simulations including "Man of Steel", "The Edge of Tomorrow", "Godzilla", "Spider-Man" and many others.
Mitch has a BSEE/CS degree from the University of Houston. Vik has a BSCS from the University of Houston
