Bluesky Moderation Lists are lists that serve to filter out certain users from your Feed, customizing your user experience with the site. They are public, shareable and can be used to mute or block several people at once.
Every Social Media site is liable to bad actors that want to ruin the experience for good users, so this tool is a way to minimize their damage and deplatform them.
@moderation-lists.bsky.social is a volunteer, unofficial account that serves as a Repository of Moderation Lists. Its objective is to:
Store Moderation Lists;
Update Moderation Lists with new additions;
Remove false positives.
Using a Moderation List way means you agree with it and are aware of the implications. You can always stop using this moderation list whenever you desire.
I strongly suggest you to read this document wholly before using any Moderation List in any form (Block, Mute, Share). I also suggest reading Bluesky's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
We currently maintain these Moderation Lists. More info on their own page:
We are strongly aware that Moderation Lists:
Can be created by any user.
This means anyone — not just staff members — can create Moderation Lists;
2. May be used abusively.
Because anyone can create multiple Moderation Lists, there is the possibility that it can be used to harass people by denying them socialization, causing segregation and other serious issues;
3. May be partial to the List creator.
Even if there is no such bad faith from the List creator, mistakes in analysis can happen at any time due to the creator's own limitations;
4. May not necessarily reflect your beliefs.
It is the List creator who assesses, adds and removes users to a moderation list. If you use others' moderation lists to mute or block people, it means you agree with their assessments;
5. There are no perfect Moderation Tools.
No matter how well-designed the Moderation List is, false positives will always happen. We do our best to reduce the number of mistakes by using custom filters, but be aware that every Moderation List comes with a risk.
It is a serious matter to let a third party mute or block accounts for you, so only use moderation lists if you agree with the risks. Only use moderation lists from trusted users, and report abuse when applicable.
Access the Moderation List, click "Subscribe" and then "Mute all" or "Block all" to instantly mute or block everyone included in the list.
Alternatively, you can also browse the list and mute or block the users one by one. You can unsubscribe to the list by doing this same procedure.
Before you mute or block all users in the list, I strongly encourage you to look at the included users and see if their inclusion makes sense. Do not subscribe to moderation lists indiscriminately. We are not responsible for bad usage of our Moderation Lists.
No.
All subsequent added users will automatically become blocked; no extra inputs are required.
Currently this is not possible on Bluesky, but its implementation is being discussed in the official ATproto Github.
Mistakes in Moderation Lists can happen to anyone at any time. If you suspect a user is a false positive, please do the following:
1. Access Internect;
2. Input the user's Bluesky handle;
3. Check its Names and Aliases to make sure the user is legitimate, and not a TROJAN ACCOUNT;
4. Access Clearsky;
5. Input the user's Bluesky handle;
6. Click on "Lists";
7. If any of our lists appear there, then it means the user is included.
"TROJAN ACCOUNTS" are accounts created by bad actors that get added into moderation lists on purpose, and when they are inside, they change their Bluesky handle to mimic that of a legitimate and well-known user. This is done to destroy the trust of moderation lists from inside out and convince other users from not using them.
After confirming the mistake, please contact us via the Request Addition or Removal Form so that we can fix the problem.
Note that being included in this list is not meant to be taken as a personal insult; people are only added into the list according to the rules of each Moderation List.
Also note: Clearsky.app and internect.info are not associated with this site or Bluesky account.
This is a volunteer work, done without no monetary intentions, and we are not affiliated to Bluesky or their staff. Therefore we reserve the rights to update the Moderation Lists under our account on our own accord. We also reserve the rights to deny removal requests if we do not find the reason for it.
Our Moderation Lists are maintained and updated manually, which can lead to honest mistakes, as described in the paragraphs above. We understand how this can be frustrating and upsetting. We do not hold ill will against any person included the list; we merely add them solely according to the listed rules and therefore we ask you to always contact us politely and clearly via the Official Form, should any mistakes be detected.
We reserve the rights to stop updating the Moderation Lists and this site, end their services and delete them from public access at any time. Do not use any of our Moderation Lists as a means to harass people or put them down.
We are not responsible for people misusing our Moderation Lists without having read the provided explanation first. Our lists exist as optional tools, therefore it is the final user's responsibility to use them correctly.
Note that Moderation Lists are not a requirement to use Bluesky and/or its services, and it is completely optional to use them. If you do not agree with any of the information in this document, do not trust our work in any way, or do not agree with the concept of Moderation Lists themselves, please refrain from using it.
Finally, we reserve the rights to block users through @moderation-lists.bsky.social if they fail to read this text and/or insults us and our work.
