Hello! If you made it past the Ranking Criteria, great! Now we are going to head out of the objective sense and more into the subjective sense.
(Disclaimer: These are what I personally think are problematic for new modders.)
Don't post "NC here" or "Don't NC here" and not explain the reasoning for it!
Do post about why the NC within a mapset is problematic (is it inconsistent, does it not match the rhythm choices, etc i.g) and post a spot where to fix them or make a general post in (specific difficulty) if it is a regular occurrence.
New modders have always fallen into the trap of not knowing what to say and the last resort they always go to is asking the mapper to fix NCing.
Usually, these mods are deemed undesirable to most mappers who already have a grasp of what they are doing within the editor, but for a new mapper they are quite gullible to change these things mindlessly.
Instead of looking for the easy way out with a NC mod even if that is the only thing you have to talk about, you should:
Look throughout the whole entire map first
Try to find an inconsistency
If you see an inconsistency, try and pay more attention to the music and what the mapper is trying to do
Example - Is there some sort of special thing happening in the song or is this the only occurrence of the vocals doing something entirely different or instrumental?
If above doesn't apply, and it is in FACT a missing nc/should be nc, then proceed to point it out where he should nc/un nc and why
There are many elements that come into play around this but it is important to look over all that before deciding the next time you post a NC mod on a mapset.
This point does not only apply to NC - While NC mods are usually the most common, there is others thing to look out for such as blanket mods, spacing mods, etc, at the end just simply Think twice before posting.
Don't post problem stamp on every single suggestion that you do and speak as everything you say is a problem.
Do instead differentiate the two and actually understand what is major, minor, or personal preference.
One issue some newer modders do, is that at times they seem to have failed in understanding that not every suggestion they make is as important as they may think they are .
1st Example:
Now in this example when I look at this, it is just a minor blanket to me, it is to the mapper, and many others upon looking at this.
If you are a new modder, you need to take this into account and understand this is rather misc. and not many will take it seriously if you post as a problem.
Posting as a suggestion will give you the weird eye still to some, but it is completely harmless at the end if you think it could still help.
2nd Example:
New modder: [!] (3) The spacing should be lower here.
In this example, the new modder truly believes that the above is a major problem, but in reality it probably isn't.
Not only that the spacing inconsistency is running across the same problem as the NC mod, it doesn't explain why there is a problem to begin with.
Like with the NC mod issue, the spacing inconsistency should face similar steps before the modder decides it's time to post as well as understand that at the end it shouldn't be marked as a major problem, or it would look upon differently to the mapper's at hand.
Don't post all the same issues individually and spam the timeline.
Do post all the same issues under the same post or if it is a regular occurance, go to [General Specific Difficulty] and post there.
Another common problem with new modders is that they love to post the same issue over and over every time. Whether it is a NC mod, a spacing mod, etc, it gets to the point where it looks cluttered and disorganized.
As a new modder who is doing this to collect that sweet old kd, focus more around making larger, more general posts, you will get all the kd you need for things such as bn test or modding activity in general with experience.
Outside of doing this for kd purposes, it is highly helpful overall to post all issues under the same tab by replying under the previous issue.
Helps the mapper from having to resolved so many issues, making it less clunky.
Will give more recognition for your mod as the likelihood of the mapper to apply if valid is much higher and less chance to be ignored.
Don't post about issues with your sole reasoning being it is inconsistent with the other difficulty.
Do post suggestions around rhythm inconsistencies on the spread when it is clearly obvious a mistake.
To clarify what I mean. Say for example:
There is a Normal, Hard, and Insane in a spread. Each for the most part has its own simplifications and ways to follow the song.
You notice something in the difficulty that you thought was odd, but the best way for you to explain it is through comparing it to other difficulties.
For some cases this is fair. For instance, an isolated place where every single difficulty maps a circle in one timestamp with the exception of one. For those cases it is obvious it was a mistake and should be brought up.
For this instance, however, if the normal difficulty has intense vocals with 2 1/2 circles but the hard does it with a 1/2 slider and the insane does it with a 1/2 slider, should you:
A. Point it out because the other difficulty doesn't do this?
B. Pay attention to what the rest of the individual difficulty is doing (in this case the normal), and see if there is a reason for why it is done differently before posting about it?
There are plenty of elements to consider around this and it is always better to judge the individual difficulty as is before comparing to what the other difficulty did, at least for rhythm/pattern placements that doesn't necessarily affect the overall difficulty.
This applies even moreso when the difficulty is a Guest difficulty (GD), bonus difficulties, etc.
Don't post a general mod in all difficulties stating anything along the lines of "There is so many issues within this set" with only time-line mods that may or may not cover the issue at hand or only vague points.
Do post a general mod around the issues within the map if possible to guide the mapper to the right path to fix it or simply move on with the set if you cannot form words about what the issues is.
Upon doing such a post in a thread, it is a rather cocky way of telling the mapper that their map is problematic without necessarily helping them especially if they are new.
Even if it isn't your intention above and you genuinely want to help the mapper, then take more time to actually help the mapper but listing more of the issues that you have in the map even if wording is a struggle for you (you gotta learn somewhere!)
Or if you do not wish to go through the process for whatever reason, then it is rather best to not leave such lines within a thread as it only leads to confusion and lowers the mapper confidence, rather than actually helping them.
