What is the difference between NEMT and EMT?
A: Choosing the right service depends on the patient’s medical needs and urgency of the situation. Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) is a cost-effective service designed for individual who needs help getting to and from medical appointment but do not require urgent medical care. Emergency medical transportation (EMT), on the other hand, is intended for emergencies and includes trained medical personnel who provide life-saving care during transport.
Can a family member or caregiver ride along?
A: Yes, in most cases, a family member or caregiver can accompany the patient during transit to assist the patient. However, this is subject to the provider's policies and vehicle capacity.
Can I cancel or reschedule my ride?
A: Yes, most NEMT providers will allow cancellation or rescheduling. However, we require at least 24 hours notice for any changes. Any cancellation within 24 hours of scheduled ride will incur a $50 late cancellation.
What if I have a medical emergency during transport?
A: NEMT driver are trained to handle basic medical situation and can contact emergency service if needed. However, as NEMT provider, we are not equipped with advanced life support (ALS) like EMT services. In the event of a medical emergency, we will safely pull over and call emergency services for immediate assistance.
Is NEMT covered by insurance?
A: Many insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, may cover NEMT services if they are deemed medically necessary. Some private insurance plans also offer coverage, but it is essential to check with your provider for specific details. If insurance coverage is not available, private pay and out of pocket payment are accepted.
How do I book a ride?
A: To ensure smooth and reliable service, we kindly request that all transportation booking be made at least 48 or 24 hours in advance. This allows us to plan and accommodate your needs effectively.
