Synchronous Collaboration Applications:
Synchronous collaboration happens at the same time or what is described as “in real-time”, examples include: communicating in-person face-to-face, talking over the phone, meeting in a web conference, etc. (Lowenthal, 2022).
Advantages of Synchronous:
Real-time collaboration
Immediate response and feedback
Ability to have collaborations in small or large groups
Video/web conferencing allows for body language and tone of voice
Increased motivation and engagement with course concepts
Increased social presence
Disadvantages of Synchronous:
Collaborator could lack reflection
Relies heavily on technology such as the internet connection
Large time commitment for collaborators
There may be an uneven contribution from collaborators
Compared to asynchronous, it lacks documentation of the collaboration as it is real time
