Synchronous

Synchronous Collaboration Applications:

Synchronous collaboration happens at the same time or what is described as “in real-time”, examples include: communicating in-person face-to-face, talking over the phone, meeting in a web conference, etc.  (Lowenthal, 2022). 

Advantages of Synchronous:

• Real-time collaboration

• Immediate response and feedback

• Ability to have collaborations in small or large groups

• Video/web conferencing allows for body language and tone of voice

• Increased motivation and engagement with course concepts

• Increased social presence

Disadvantages of Synchronous:

• Collaborator could lack reflection 

• Relies heavily on technology such as the internet connection

• Large time commitment for collaborators

• There may be an uneven contribution from collaborators

• Compared to asynchronous, it lacks documentation of the collaboration as it is real time
