Here is information about USWT Women of Today Buckets of Sunshine 2024
Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families throughout Iowa. Headquartered in Des Moines with offices in Ankeny, Fort Dodge, Osceola and Ottumwa, CFI provides services, such as: domestic violence prevention and intervention, teen programs, family support, early childhood development, mental health and substance abuse.
As part of their Domestic Violence Services, they sponsor SAFE SHELTER, Iowa’s largest domestic violence shelter and the only one in Polk County (where Des Moines, the site of the USWT 2024 Year-End is), offering a safe place to heal and begin building a life free from violence.
Janice Lane Schroeder, CEO, LMSW, for CFI has noted they are excited about the opportunity to have SAFE SHELTER serve as our USWT BUCKETS OF SUNSHINE recipient for 2024 (as we also worked with them in 2021!)
Between now and the convention, June 7-8, 2024, ALL USWT members are encouraged to collect items from their WISH LIST - and bring to year-end. Janice and/or a representative has been invited to our Saturday luncheon to tell us about their organization, especially the shelter, and collect all the donations.
NOTE: You may also make a monetary donation: Send check made out to United States Women of Today and note in memo line: 2024 Buckets donation. All monetary donations should be sent to USWT Treasurer Jane Hanson. She will note the total monetary donation and send a check for that amount to the shelter. [For further information, check out their web-site: cfiowa.org, click on “programs-Domestic Violence Services”; or contact: Michele Thompson, USWT 2024 Year-End, chair, kentsmom@yahoo.com)

Incoming Board members and LPMs should sign up for LOTS training on May 4th at Immaculate Conception Church in Rice. This is a great way for the new board to bond together and learn new skills. This is also a great opportunity to network with other Presidents, State Delegates, Secretaries, Treasurers, Membership Vice Presidents, and/or Programming Vice Presidents from across the state. Getting to know others who are going through the same experiences or struggles as you can help with making your year go smoothly.
For those who are serving in a position for a 3rd or more time and have previously attended LOTS training, we are offering an optional Leadership Training session as an alternative to attending position training. This is a limited space training session and priority will be given to Chapter Presidents and Vice Presidents first.
Click the above purple highlighted (Local Officer Training Session (LOTS)) for the registration form. Check out CMVP Tevyan's Winter State CIP for more information about LOTS.

State Store shopping is not only fun but beneficial! Did you know that sales from the State Store help us meet our budgetary needs? Items purchased are also great for recruiting new members and retaining current ones. Items that are currently available include pens, note cards, postcards, the president’s mugs, small notebooks, umbrellas, tote bags, garment bags, flashlights, finger mitts, charms (commemorative, officer, years of service, and STEP), pins (commemorative, officer and years of service). Do your officers wear pins or charms showing that they are holding an officer position? If not, why not implement this and show pride in the positions and the leadership roles held? There are also officer manuals available as well as certificates that you can use to recognize your members. Gift certificates for future purchases are also available for purchase. Store items are available at Conventions and most Regional and District meetings.
MNWT Clothing Store
Have you checked out the MNWT Clothing Store? In cooperation with Warroad Threads, we offer MNWT branded clothing. We have quite a selection, including T-shirts, polo shirts, pants, jackets and hats– all with the MNWT logo. Your order will also help support State Ways & Means. This is a great way to show your pride in our organization and to support the organization at the same time. Please check out the website: https://warroadthreads.com/product-category/minnesota-women-of-today.

3rd Trimester Challenges
Nominate a “Program Manager of the Trimester” for Living & Learning.
Have your chapter complete and certify in a Pep Course (Personal Enrichment Program) and submit to the Living & Learning SPM.
*In addition to the basic sections of the Living and Learning Certification, each year the State Program Manager may add two additional items of their choice.*
Her additions this year:
1. Plan a day to help a “person in need” to simplify their life in some way; with organizing their home, a
room, a closet, or anything of their choice.
2. Write in a journal every day for “a week” three (3) things you are grateful for to help instill “Gratefulness” in your life.
You must complete 10 of the items on the Living & Learning certification PLUS one of the two SPM additions.
How To Change Your Life For The Better:
DO something that scares you: Push yourself out of your comfort zone by saying “yes” more often, volunteering for a cause you care about or putting yourself in a new environment.
GET amped up about something new: It can be anything – upcoming trip, new pet, a life-changing book or even a new Woman of Today position.
SPEND time with people who make your life better: Positivity only feeds more positivity!
FORGO perfectionism: Never allow the desire to be perfect keep you from taking action in your life. And remember this – perfection doesn’t exist.
HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS for your life: “You are what you think.” If you hold high expectations for yourself and set the bar high for your goals, you will be laying the groundwork for bringing them to fruition.
STOP holding back your real thoughts: Honesty sets the stage for confidence and the ability to perform. If you find that some people are turned off by your honesty, don’t worry. The friends you attract and keep will be true ones. –Anonymous

3rd Trimester Focus:
Like any home, Crescent Cove has daily needs to provide a clean and welcoming environment for children and families. They are caring for more children per night than ever, which means that they are going through around $200 worth of products every week! Each family that goes there has their own unique needs and requirements, so we are going to focus on gift cards and cash donations. Gift Cards needed: Target • Amazon • Cub Foods

Crescent Cove will be doing their Spring Fling in May again this year! Watch your official MNWT chapter email for details.
Crescent Cove Challenge of the Trimester:

Email me with ways you are fundraising for Crescent Cove. Pictures are welcome! You will be entered in the drawing.
Let me know how you have promoted Crescent Cove, if you have toured or volunteered at Crescent Cove, held an information session, guest speaker, etc., and your name will be in the drawing.

Leap into March with a chapter donation to the area food shelf to help youth food insecurity. Donating food items, volunteering at a food shelf or donating money all qualify for this challenge. (note: some food shelves match monetary donations during the month of March) Please email yt@mnwt.org with your chapter accomplishments. There will be a gift card drawing for chapters who leap into this challenge.
Donate $25 to the OYA scholarship fund. Make the check payable to MNWT with YT in the memo section. Checks should be sent to YT SPM Sandy. If you need her address, please send email to yt@mnwt.org. There will be a basket drawing at annual convention for chapters who send a donation.
Chapters are asked to collect and donate blankets to shelters and programs for youths.
During April create a chapter “encampment”. Chapter members should plan to camp overnight on a local city boulevard, parking lot, a member’s yard, or land, (making sure you meet city regulations). This should not be a comfortable experience. Guidelines for this project:
Gather chapter members to spend a night (12 hours) outside.
You can use tents and blankets only. No campers or RVs allowed.
Water and minimal food is allowed. No alcoholic drinks or warm meals.
Collect pledges from businesses, friends, and family, etc. Sample Pledge form is below.
Select a local shelter to receive donations. Email yt@mnwt.org with the number of participants, the encampment location, amount of pledges and where donated. *Ideas for location to raise awareness: Check with local city hall or other government buildings; or a local business owner if you could set-up on their property.
There will be an incentive to participating chapters. Baskets will be given to the chapter with the highest percentage of members participating; and the chapter with the highest amount of money donated.

Chapter Grants
The Chapter Grant Program is funded through the “Lucky Buck” Auction held each year. We received two grant applications and the following chapters was awarded a grant from the Foundation at Winter State: $1000 was awarded to the New Hope Women of Today for their Habitate Restoration Project. $1000 was awarded to the District 2 Women of Today for their Girls date project. Congratulations to both chapters for their efforts to help make a difference in their community.
How Gift Card Fundraising Works
Gift card fundraising, also known as scrip fundraising, has been the #1 fundraiser for nonprofit organizations across the U.S. for more than 25 years. Why? Because it’s easy and more convenient than selling goods or recruiting volunteers. Earn simply by buying gift cards to use for everyday purchases, instead of cash or credit cards. www.raiseright.com
