The social consciousness competency in the GCSP aims to equip students with the capabilities to work together and to work for the larger community.
As we approach graduation and become soon-to-be functional members of society, we must learn to pay respects to our community. Humans are social creatures, and we rely on each other for energy, clean water, and communal safety. We engineers have the capabilities to create new tools that further enable a well-functioning society.
As part of this competency, I took part in the Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) program where I worked with other students to create autonomous systems aimed at natural disaster security.
