The first meeting of Metro St. Louis NEA-Retired was held in December 1998.  An NEA Grant provided lunch for 40 educators interested in joining a local organization with a connection to both MNEA and NEA.  A committee was appointed to draft the first bylaws.  Bylaws were adopted in March 1999.  METRO became the third MNEA-R regional group.
