Services

As a school counselor, my primary role is to help students overcome and/or manage barriers to success. (A professional problem solver!) I believe in a non-judgemental approach that sees students as individuals with their own strengths and challenges. All children deserve to have the support to be the best they can be.

To help, my services fall into the 3 different categories shown below. Under each logo are examples of situations, issues, or topics I can help with.

Academic

I may assist with improving study habits, focusing, time management, and organizational skills. Additionally, I can work with students, teachers, and families to create specialized learning plans.

Personal/Social

I may help with friendship/social skills, problem solving, anxiety, behavior/emotion management, self-control, depression, grief, self-esteem, stressful life events, crisis, and more. I can talk to students for anything from a tough morning to a crisis event.

If needed, I am also able to provide support and assistance to students and families in crisis and can provide referrals to outside agencies for more extensive assistance including counseling, evaluations or treatment.

Career

Careers aren't as big of a focus at the elementary level- but that doesn't mean it's not important!

In grades k-6, we focus on helping students discover who they are, their values, and their strengths. Additionally, they can begin to explore and discover careers that they may be interested in!

Types of Services Provided

In order help with the different things listed above, I can provide several types of services to students (and their families).

Individual Meetings

These can be regular meetings or they can be every once in a while. During individual sessions I may teach skills in-depth or I might be a listening ear.

Small Groups

Small groups are groups of 2-5 students all learning or discussing a topic of common interest.

Whole Class Lessons

Once a month, I go into each classroom to teach whole class lessons supporting the MNCS Elementary vision.

Collaboration

Students each have their own group of people who love and support them. Their families, their teachers, myself, and community.

I work with the individuals on each student's team in order to ensure they have everything they need to feel and be their best.

Aside from just working directly with students, families, and colleagues, I spend time researching, prepping, and individualizing interventions to meet student needs and goals.

Throughout every part of my role, I am evaluating and adjusting interventions in order to reach the best possible outcome. I actively seek out Professional Development so I can continue providing services that are aligned with current research and evidence.
