A Brief History of the Coon Rapids Women of Today

The Coon Rapids Women of Today are a dynamic group of women that emphasize community service, personal growth and leadership training.

The Coon Rapids Women of Today are part of both the Minnesota Women of Today (a state organization) and the United States Women of Today (a national organization).

There was a Coon Rapids Women of Today chapter which was chartered in1962 as the Mrs. Jaycees.  In 1979 the name changed to the Jaycee Women and in 1985 the name and organization of the “Women of Today” was established.  In the year 2000, that chapter closed.  There was no chapter in Coon Rapids for 16 years.

The new Coon Rapids chapter of the Women of Today chartered on February 29, 2016 with 17 members so reinstated it with the Office of the Secretary of State of Minnesota.

One of the very first projects for this chapter was going to a Coon Rapids City Council Meeting to receive a proclamation for the Mayor of Coon Rapids which proclaimed July 1st as Women of Today Founder’s Day in Coon Rapids.  This has become a yearly event.

Since most members were new members there was a lot have training.  Some of the members worked an Easter project with a nearby chapter and also worked on two projects with another nearby chapter.  The members found right away the need to make money for their chapter so right away held a garage sale for a fundraiser.  Some of the members walked in a Walk for Mental Health and some have worked on a playground for the Breaking Free organization.
