On the social media addiction quiz, They said I'm "fairly reliant on social media but there are worse culprits", which says that I have a moderate level of dependence on social media. this result made me realize that I spend WAY more time on social media than I thought, especially when I’m bored or just procrastinatinglike always . I noticed that I often check apps without even thinking , Reflecting on this, I think I could benefit from making limits on my usage and being mindful of how often I go online
One statistic that stood out to me from the Pew Research articles is 64% of Americans say social media has a mostly negative effect on the way things are going in the United States.
I chose this because it feels like most people recognize the negative effects of social media even though near everyone still use it every day. this is interesting to me because it highlights a contradiction people know it can be harmful but still decide to keep using it. The article also explains that concerns include misinformation, hate, and division, which are things I’ve personally seen online.
social media has both positive and negative effects on society but its negative impacts are becoming more noticeable. On one side it allows people to stay connected and spread information quickly. however it also contributes to distraction, comparison, and mental health struggles. many people feel pressured to show off a perfect version of their lives, which can lead to low self-esteem. also, social media can spread misinformation quickly but overall social media is a powerful tool, i think people need to use it more responsibly and be more aware.
i learned how much time people spend on social media and how it can influence behavior and emotions and i also became more aware of my own habits and how often Iuse my phone without realizing it. this project helped me understand the benefits and risks of social media. it made me think more critically about how I use it in my daily life.
