Flint

Sarah: All right, so Adrienne over here is talking about something else that we find in this area. So I'm gonna use this shovel over here to break some of this gravel, and that gives us a couple pieces of this flint. I know that this has been a really important mineral that people have used, so what do we want to say about flint? 

Kim: Sure. So flint is what they call cryptocrystalline, so it means that the crystals are so small you can't see them, and it's made up of quartz, so it's very strong and it fractures in such a way that you can actually use them as tools. So that is probably one of the more popular ways of thinking about flint. It's been used for for tools throughout time. 

Sarah: That is really -- you can actually make one in Minecraft if you combine flint and steel together, you can get a thing that can light a fire.

Kim: There you go. 

Sarah: Like on this coal block if I have one. 

Kim: Oh wow. 

Sarah: And this drives me crazy, you can't put flint in the material reducer, but you can put quartz in. So if I were able to put flint in there would I see the same stuff? 

Kim: You would see the same stuff, absolutely. 

Sarah: All right, that is super cool.
