To build on previously collected Irish soil data to provide a detailed characterisation of soil microbial bio- and metabolite diversity, allowing the identification of novel chemical and biological indicators which can be developed and implemented as part of a modern soil quality monitoring programme.
Obtain representative sets of soil samples from six key land-use types across the west and northwest of Ireland
Characterise the current state of soil microbial biodiversity across multiple land-use sites in Ireland
Characterise the current state of soil health across multiple land-use sites in Ireland using advance metabolomics tools.
Investigate relationships between microbial biodiversity, metabolites, soil health and land use, and identify possible novel indicators for monitoring.
Build a soil microbial biodiversity/omics database and map for Ireland
