Engage Students in Active Learning
My teaching philosophy is to engage students in deliberate and visual learning through active, passionate, and collective participation. I engage my students in active learning through questioning, meaningful feedback, and encouragement. To facilitate that, I deliver background information, stimulate critical thinking by setting challenging but acquirable goals, and direct the students by providing questions and necessary feedback. Questioning allows the students to interpret and connect the available information; feedback guides them on the right track. Consequently, questioning and feedback ensure that the goals are achieved, which encourages the students to be self-involved and passionate in the learning process.
Universal Design for Learning
I apply Universal Design for Learning by creating a flexible and inclusive classroom where students can engage with material in different ways. I present concepts using mini-lectures, whiteboard explanations, videos, and PowerPoint slides so students can access information visually and verbally. I also incorporate questioning, discussions, and team-based problem solving to encourage participation and collaborative learning. Assignments are designed incrementally so students can gradually build their knowledge and confidence. Weekly homework and projects allow students to demonstrate learning in different ways. In addition, I provide meaningful feedback that helps students reflect on their progress, improve their work, and develop independent learning skills throughout the course.
