Our conversion strategy has emphasized energy-efficiency, cost-reduction, and low-key appearance. Here are some of our favorite elements:

Solar panels on the roof, along with our interconnect system, and lithium battery, provide for completely self-sufficient electricity (for frig, microwave, electric kettle).
L-track holds cargo nets (and sometimes cross-country skis) on the ceiling and upper walls.
Our simple awning is made of tarp and extendable painting poles.

A composting toilet is our most expensive single item. It's the Nature's Head Composting Toilet with Spider Handle, and has worked perfectly. It's also available from Amazon.
Our $200 frig with a completely separate freezer section which maintains 0 degrees F or colder is efficient, low-cost, and works well. As a bonus it makes back-up ice.
Our simple, home-made console holds food and drinks.

We wanted something more versatile on the roof than the usual campervan roof vent. We wanted to poke above the roofline, as a photography perch, and for potential storage and inspection. We installed a sunroof, CR Laurence AP1530B5H from Amazon.
We purchased this window, which opens completely (unlike slider windows), with an integrated screen and blackout blind, from Tern Overland, who provided great support to us for our do-it-yourself installation, especially when choosing the biggest window that could fit.

Our stand-up office (standing alongside the bed, with a laptop and large monitor on the bed) helped us enjoy editing photos and accomplish work.
With a down comforter, and occasional use of the diesel heater we installed, we were comfortable at night at 10,000' elevation.
The cabinetry we made, plus a space-saving tambour cabinet door we purchased, served us well.
Custom made rear door rack, for bikes, leveling blocks, and other gear.

Our backup camera is indispensable.
The van came with no security system. We tinkered with a Rasberry Pi but the inertial sensor seems to have some challenges. In the meantime, we have a manual triggered siren just in case.
The bench seat we built provides dinner seating, storage, and two seat belts, which are side facing and hopefully provide safety.
