RULES:
A sentence has at least one subject and one predicate. Predicate can be either main verb (play, study, call, eat, etc.) or/and auxiliary verb (is, am, are, was, were, etc.).
Start a sentence with a capital letter.
Put a period (.) at the end of a sentence.
"I" should always be capitalized.
Use capital letters for names (proper noun).
Use capital letters for days and months.
Use proper conjunctions and transitions.
Do not put and, but, or, so at the beginning of the sentence.
Adverb can be written before subject, but make sure that it is followed by comma.
Always check for correct spelling.
Examples:
My name is Levelice. (Subject = my name; Predicate= is)
My major is Management. (Capital letter at the beginning)
Writing is my hobby. (Period [.] at the end of a sentence)
I live in Sagan. (Capitalize "I")
I am studying in Duta Wacana Christian University. (Capital letters for names)
I study from Monday to Friday. (Capital letter for days)
Besides writing, I also like travelling and shopping. (Connectors and transitions)
Karina submitted the assignment last week. Last week, Karina submitted the assignment.
How to develop a sentence?
I like singing.
I like singing Korean songs.
I like singing Korean songs, especially from Blackpink and BTS.
I like singing some Korean songs with my friends.
I like singing Korean songs because they are very catchy.
I like singing Korean songs and they help me to learn the language.
Remember:
A good sentence is a complete sentence. Make sure that it contains subject and predicate and conveys a clear idea.
Example 1: Suzie presents.
That sentence contains subject and predicate. However, the meaning is not clearly conveyed. The sentence will be much better if it is modified into: Suzie presents her infographic in front of the class today.
Example 2:
The longer the better doesn't work in writing a sentence. Although a sentence may consist of more than a subject and a predicate, make sure that the sentence does not contain too many conjunctions.
Example: He went to the campus to submit his assignment but he suddenly went back home because he didn't take his assignment with him and he didn't have enough time to do that so he called his brother to deliver his assignment for him.
See the difference: He went to the campus to submit his assignment but suddenly he went back home. It happened because he didn't take his assignment with him. He didn't have enough time to do that so he called his brother to deliver his assignment for him.
