Question: What did the instructor do well in delivering online course content?
·The online resources from the videos to the articles and assignments all helped introduce us gradually to the content and it felt natural even though it wasn't in person. I really loved DataCamp as well, it was so simple and I learned a ton from it.
·The resources were all great and easy to follow, I really liked the module setup and I appreciate that the professor took 1on1 time with students to explain when things were not clicking
·Dr. K has been specially dedicated to his classes. All his videos and additional materials are carefully selected to overcome the challenges related to the current situation
·As always, Dr. K did an outstanding job with taking the content and delivering it in just the right quantities to cover all the topics without overburdening the class. His homework assignments and quizzes were great teaching tools to provide feedback prior to the examinations. Also, Dr. K's examinations thoroughly covered the material and were challenging but not frustrating. He was able to provide a similar level of difficulty even though we were in the online format.
·His use of online tools like MyLab and the recorded lectures made it feel like I was actually in class. Even though I have only had a couple of live classes with Dr. K it feels like I've been talking to him all semester after listening to all of his recorded lectures.
Question: What improvements could the instructor have made in delivering online course content?
·I can't think of anything. This was the best online course I have ever taken.
·In previous Dr. K classes, we would have the lecture and then break out into smaller groups to apply the material to a case study or other assignment. I really enjoyed these smaller groups, and I think it would be beneficial to have breakout sessions within Harvey while the classes are still being offered remotely.
·I think adding more application exercises to the topics would be helpful. i also think providing answers to the questions on the powerpoint slides would be nice.
·I really can't think of anything important. His keyboard is very loud on the video but that didn't bother me. I liked the sound of it and I've been thinking about asking him what kind he uses and getting one for myself.
·He did a great job
Question: What skills and understanding have you gained from this course?
·I have gained a more thorough understanding of various supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques. Additionally, I have a much surer grasp of the coding language, Python, than I did previously.
·I learned quite a bit about data mining and predictive analytics. This was my favorite course that I took this semester.
·The Python language! It is incredibly powerful and flexible. Also learned 5 different models to run with: Random Forest, Decision, Tree, Neural Networks, Logistic Regression. We also learned to make recommendation models with unsupervised data. It was an excellent course!
·I learned a lot! I was an excel god - in a manner of speaking - and this course taught me a few tricks with some previously unused tools that have only increased my productivity and overall use. The digital outlay of excels data analysis packages and add-ons are phenomenal. With the "Whole of Business" moving into informatics and analytics - this course was a godsend. NOW it is VERY CHALLENGING - and IF you do not have a background in Statistics / Probabilities - you will be spending 4-6 additional hours a week 're-learning' or 'teaching' yourself these things so you can handle the coursework. The course is not just about 'MS Excel' it is about statistical analysis, oh and by the way, and we use a tool called excel to create models.
Question: Additional comments about this class
·Dr. K did a great job both in class and remotely. He was flexible with the course syllabus, but he also solicited class comments before making any changes. Overall, this has been one of the best classes I took at TU.
·I thought the first test was a bit too challenging considering many of us were first-time python users. However the second half of the class (post-spring break) was incredibly well done. Moving the lessons to online was helpful for me. My biggest area of opportunity for Dr. K lead classes has always been that too much content is covered too fast. However, with having the lectures posted online I was able to pause the recording, take more detailed notes, and rewind if needed. As it turns out, this is exactly what I needed to comprehended the material. Not only did I feel more prepared for the second test, but I thought Dr. K did a great job of testing us on content that we had covered in class, versus throwing some complex curveballs. This is exactly what I was hoping for out of the second part of the class. Dr. K did an incredible job listening to our mid-semester feedback to create an environment where students could be successful.
·Dr. K. is a genuine and caring instructor. He is vibrant and he truly "LOVES" numbers - math. I actually think he smiles more when he starts solving equations. :) *as a side note: with my need to learn/relearn some math from years ago - I spend approximately 20-25 hours per week on this course alone. I know that some in my cohort (cybersecurity) spent more or less the same... I do not know what their grades are - but you guys can look at that. This course took twice at least the amount of time I usually spend per week to complete.
·Dr. K had both live and recorded sessions. He was able to seamlessly shift from in-class to online.
·Dr. K thoroughly explained the lectures and had them posted timely. Additionally he gave very specific examples in the lectures that we could apply to the homework, and then the homework assignments directly prepared us for the tests. The second half of this course was phenomenal. I don't think we could have asked for a better teacher to go through this pandemic with.
·Dr. K did a great job with this course. My daughter is minoring in Business Analytics and also had an online course that involved introductory exposure to Python and I saw how she struggled with her class. I went through her homework with her on several occasions and looked at the information she was provided and it was woefully inadequate for someone with no programming experience. I was sending her the information that Dr. K provided to us to help her fill in the gaps in what she was receiving (or not receiving) from her professor.
Question: What improvements could the instructor have made in delivering online course content?
·I think the instructor did really well in adapting to online content. No improvements needed.
·I like the ones where he doesn't have a video of himself talking while he's teaching. I like it when it is just the code or the power point slide, and he's drawing/marking on it while he talks in the background (without his video of himself on). Those were the best sessions for me.
·None, excellent job. Dr. K was timely, the lectures made sense, and the homework prepared us for the test. There were not any curveballs and as a full-time worker and parent I really appreciated this.
Question: What did the instructor do well that contributed to your learning?
·He was very kind, respectful, and knowledgeable. He handled class time very well and showed step-by-step how to complete some of the tougher problems. The modules were also great and well thought out. I also liked that he asked for recurring feedback.
·Very knowledgeable with a contagious love of his subject
·Dr. K is clearly very passionate about the subject matter and was both friendly and approachable. He is a dedicated professor and I hope that I have more opportunities to be a student in his class.
Question: What did the instructor do well that contributed to your learning?
·One can see from any lecture how much time and efforts Dr. K has put into it, to make sure the content is clearly delivered to the students.
·Dr. K is one of the best if not the best professors I have ever had at TU. It has been great. I wish I had taken more classes with him.
·This is my third class with Dr. K and he is consistently a great professor. He knows his topics, he cares that his students learn by giving tough assignments and helping them along the way, and he cares about his students by checking in with everyone on how they are doing personally. I would like to keep in touch with him even after graduating from the program.
·He adapted. I think many of us were filling pretty lousy and overwhelmed after the first test. Many of us worked incredibly hard only to receive a test that felt impossibly difficult. However, Dr. K solicited feedback and provided student with a platform to communicate what was and wasn't working well. He then made quick changes to his format that prepared students for the second half of the course. I think many students have went from feeling lousy about their ability to complete this course and frustrated, to grateful and appreciative that Dr. K was so receptive to our feedback. I certainly questioned my intelligence multiple times through the semester (which I think is part of the learning experience in graduate school!). However, I finished this semester feeling knowledgeable and confident.
·I hardly used the textbook at all. Dr. K. did an excellent job in distilling the information down into his lectures and slides. I was able to complete the quizzes more from just using the online tools, my notes, and the lectures than any need to reference the textbook.
Question: What improvements could the instructor have made to enhance your learning?
Nothing. He did everything very well. Again, one of the best professors I have ever had in either my undergrad and grad.
Moving forward (I know I will have more Dr. K classes in the future!) I think Dr. K should consider recording all of his lectures like he has done for online learning. what's beautiful about the structure Dr. K used in the 2nd half of the semester we got the majority of the benefits of being in class without being in class, while also getting the benefits of not being physically in class. For example, when we moved to asynchronous learning we lost the ability to ask questions real time, but because we were allowed to work in teams on the homework, we got to ask these same questions to our peers and learn in that setting. Additionally, with the lectures recorded, I was able to pause the recordings, take more detailed notes, and re-listen to the video when I needed, which enhanced my comprehension of the material.
