The MJD Foundation is a not-for-profit specialist disability support organisation, with clear Aboriginal leadership, that started as a small grassroots organisation on Groote Eylandt, NT, in 2008.
We have since grown, and now operate across northern Australia. We provide education, conduct research, and offer care and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and their families living with MJD and other similar conditions.
We are led by people living with MJD, their families and their communities, by listening to what is important to them when it comes to working together and how to do our jobs well.
The vision of the MJD Foundation is to provide a future free from MJD.
The MJD Foundation works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians from different communities and cultures across the north of Australia. There are around 20 First Nation languages/dialects spoken by the families we work with. Many of our clients speak multiple languages, with English being their second, third or fourth language learnt.

Working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians living with MJD
At MJD Foundation, we are known for our approach to the health and wellbeing of the people living with MJD that we support. We are mindful that health goes beyond the physical body, and we work alongside our Aboriginal families and communities to understand their specific needs.
We consider the family as a whole unit, giving respect to a person’s commitments to family, and listening to what keeps people strong and happy – on both the inside and the outside.
Our approach to our clients and their health is unique. To learn about 'Our Way' click on 'read' below to open up the booklet. Click the arrows (< >) to move through the pages, and complete the activities as you go.
