JP Reps
The JP Reps are an MIT student organization designed to serve the needs of MIT-WHOI Joint Program students. They advocate for the student population while working to bring students together through various social events such as trivia nights, bake off's, social hours, and a weekly Stretching for the Stressed to improve student wellbeing. JP REFS
The JP REFS (Resources for Easing Friction & Stress) are graduate students formally trained in conflict management. They can help you explore your options and guide you on a path through whatever conflict may arise during your graduate experience. REFS is not meant to be the only solution to every situation, but rather, a stepping stone to the many great organizations which are available to you.
WHOI/ MIT Clubs:
A collaboration of ocean science and engineering professional societies dedicated to enhancing the experience of ocean engineering, naval architecture, and marine technology students at MIT.
Association of Student Activities (ASA)
The MIT-WHOI Joint Program is part of MIT's ASA community as an officially recognized group of students.
The Broader Impacts Group (BIG) is a student-run organization based at WHOI and MIT. BIG's mission is to build a network and facilitate connections within that network in order to provide graduate students with enhanced resources and enable them to share science with others.
EAPS Graduate Student Advisory Council (EGSAC)
A student-run group within the Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences Department at MIT. This group organizes social events and are also a forum for student concerns.
Gays, Lesbians and Others at WHOI (GLOW)
A community support network dedicated to providing a welcoming environment for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transsexuals, and transgendered individuals as well as their partners and allies at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Graduate Student Council of MIT
The Graduate Student Council exists to enhance the overall graduate experience at MIT by promoting the general welfare and concerns of the graduate student body, creating new programs and initiatives to provide opportunities for growth and interaction, and communicating with the MIT Faculty and Administration on behalf of graduate students.
International Committee at WHOI
The International Committee at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution welcomes and assists in acclimating international visitors to the Institution and the community. Several functions are held annually for international members of the WHOI community sponsored by the International Committee.
Oceanbites is a graduate student-run oceanography blog started at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography.

Woods Hole Diversity Advisory Committee
Sponsored by six Woods Hole science institutions, the Diversity Committee and its website is intended as a resource for visitors, students, employees - and for people who are considering becoming visitors, students, or employees.

Starbucks the 120 Broadway, Cambridge location is closest to campus
Flour a delicious local bakery with a few Boston/Cambridge locations (Mass Ave is the closest location to campus).
Area 4 (A4) a coffee shop and a restaurant with a small but delicious menu on Main Street
Blue Bottle across from Starbucks on Ames Street, a California chain branching out in the area
Tatte a bakery with a few locations along Main Street and Third Street
Places to See/Explore, Day Trips, Entertainment:
The MIT Activities Committee (MITAC) has many static and rotating discounts on things in the Boston/Cambridge area and beyond. Discount tickets to movies, museums, the aquarium, and many sporting and theatre events are available. Some museums in the area you're able to access for free with your MIT ID. Boston/Cambridge has many, many things to do and see, so be sure to sign up for the MITAC newsletter.
MIT's Division of Student Life webpage is also an excellent place to go to see some of the things coming up on campus.

Vester - breakfast, lunch, and coffee on Ames Street
Dumpling Daughter - Chinese food on Ames Street, next to Vester
Stratton Student Center (W20) - on Mass Ave, this campus location is home to a number of small chains (Dunkin Donuts, and a few, rotating lunch spots on the second floor)
Flour - bakery serving breakfast, lunch, coffee, and pastries
Saloniki - popular Greek restaurant on Mass Ave
Clover Food Lab - local chain with a rotating menu for breakfast, lunch, and coffee. Locations on Main Street and Mass Ave

Fitness:
While there are many gyms in the area, some offering specific-focus activities, the MIT campus athletics department, DAPER (Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation) offers a wide range of activities, from gym equipment and pools, to intramural and recreational sports, as well as various classes. Shopping:
The Cambridgeside Galleria is a large, indoor shopping mall in East Cambridge, perhaps a 20 minute walk from campus.
Newbury Street, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, and Harvard and Davis Sqaures are also popular spots for shopping, among others in the area.
Medical:
MIT - a great first-stop for healthcare needs that are covered by your MIT health insurance. Urgent Care is located inside Building E23.
CVS - newly-opened 238 Main Street location is about a 5 minute walk from campus. The 624 Mass Ave location is about a 20 minute walk.
Across the river in Boston are a number of world-class hospitals and specialty offices. Please refer to your MIT health insurance or personal health insurance coverage if you chose to waive MIT's insurance plan, to learn more about the services covered. MIT Medical has a close relationship with many area hospitals, and if a student goes to MIT's Urgent Care and they are unable to properly support you, they often quickly refer you out or, if needed, transfer an acutely ill student by ambulance.
Other:
Central, Harvard, and Davis Squares all have plenty to do, see, and eat!
