A School That Shapes the Future of the Community
Through Local × Global × Inquiry-Based Learning
⚪︎The goal is to develop individuals who will continue to contribute to the development of the local community through learning centered around Hiroshima, an international city of peace and culture.
⚪︎The curriculum focuses on exploring both the local community's strengths and challenges, while also addressing global issues and opportunities.
⚪︎Students work individually or in teams, navigating between local and global perspectives, while engaging in activities aimed at promoting the community's appeal and solving its challenges.
※Glocal: A combination of "global" and "local." It refers to thinking and acting from a global perspective while considering and respecting local characteristics and needs.
Our mission is to cultivate a new generation of talent who can think with a broad perspective and high-level insight, and who are deeply engaged in their work as if it were their own. This new kind of talent, which will be essential in the future, is best nurtured through inquiry-based learning.
By focusing on inquiry with a glocal perspective, we aim to establish a new standard for regular high schools.
Starting from the 2023 academic year, we have been designated as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s "High School Reform for the New Era (General Course Reform Support Project)." We are working together with students and various local stakeholders to build a new type of school.
Hiroshima City promotes itself as an "International City of Peace and Culture" and is working towards building a "community-based society" grounded in the spirit of mutual assistance. To support the development of individuals who will carry this mission forward, Misuzugaoka High School, whose motto is "Enterprising, Friendship, and Moderation," will introduce a new general course, the "Glocal Inquiry Course," in April 2025—the first of its kind in the prefecture. This course will focus on inquiry-based learning using Hiroshima’s local community as a field of study. Students will learn to identify, confront, and solve problems on their own, with the goal of nurturing individuals who will continue to contribute to the development of the local society.
At Misuzugaoka High School, the entire community of Hiroshima city serves as a field of learning. Through your studies here, each of you will grow in your own unique way. Would you like to take this new step together with us?
In traditional schools, teaching often followed a one-way structure from teachers to students, with knowledge being delivered and opportunities provided. This often led students to feel like they were being "forced" to do things. At Misuzugaoka High School, we are creating a school where students can actively pursue their own ideas through student-led projects and collaboration with local community members. Here, students can experience the freedom to try what they want to do.
At Misuzugaoka High School, we value learning not only within the school but also outside of it. The entire city of Hiroshima serves as a field of study for our students. By improving the traditional school system, students have the opportunity to dive deeper into their research topics, learning directly from businesses, universities, and government officials when needed. We have also revised the school curriculum to ensure ample time for students to fully engage in inquiry-based learning. Whether learning at school or exploring the community, students will deepen their knowledge through diverse experiences and interactions with various people.
Some people might think that focusing on local community development means staying within a small, limited area. Others may feel the urge to go beyond their community, explore the world, and connect with different people. At Misuzugaoka High School, while we focus on learning within the local community, we also offer opportunities to gain diverse experiences by connecting with overseas cultures. You can take part in international exchanges online and join overseas study trips. Challenge yourself to explore the world!
What if you had three homeroom teachers? What could that offer? In the Glocal Inquiry Course, we have implemented a "team-teaching" system, which allows students to seek advice from multiple teachers. This means students can receive support from a variety of perspectives. Additionally, with teachers who specialize in different areas, students have the opportunity to learn from a diverse range of expertise, helping them discover new sides of themselves. Our teachers are fully committed to supporting your "try-it-yourself" spirit, creating an environment where you can challenge any dream.
