During the Athena Game Jam 2025, three other team members and I had four days to create a game with the theme of 'Rock and Roll'. We decided to make a game in which the player is an armadillo rock god making his way out of his temple while collecting his instruments on the way down.
My Role:
Our team consisted of two developers and two artists, and we divided responsibilities between character and level design, pairing one developer and one artist for each. I was responsible for developing the level design and implementing level mechanics—a role I thoroughly enjoyed, as my strengths and interests lie in technical design.
In 2022, four peers within the university and I took part in the Global Game Jam. That year, the theme was "Roots," and we decided on a 2D platformer game in Unity that takes you on a journey to reach the root of a computer.
My Role:
Within the group, we had a team leader, two programmers, an artist, and a level designer, which was my role. As the level designer I was in charge of the level layouts and the puzzles within the game.
Once the levels were all planned out, the programmers took over and I helped with some of the visuals, like the clouds, wire doors and collectable man.
My Sketches:
Here are a few screen captures of the sketches I did for the level layouts and artworks I contributed to the game...
This is the door we decided would fit the theme the best, it's a cartoonised cut of wire used as a door.
In all honesty this is a mess of different sketch ideas we were drawing as a group. it may look like a mess, however this proved very helpful in deciding the design of some of the assets
