The Mission of the Miss Sunnyside Program:
The goal is to give young ladies in the community of Sunnyside an opportunity to serve as Junior Ambassadors in the following areas:
Represent and promote tourism in our community with pride and dignity.
Attend community functions (ribbon cuttings, fundraiser, banquets, special events, community service events, etc.,)
Represent Sunnyside around the State at parades, luncheons, pageants, etc.,
Take part in a service project that benefits our community and instills civic responsibility.
Grow as individuals with the continuous support of family, peers, and the Sunnyside community.
Candidate Participation Rules:
You must either attend Sunnyside High School, Sunnyside Christian High School, or be homeschooled in the Sunnyside School District to be a candidate. If the candidate does not live within the Sunnyside District boundaries, they must be able to show that they have been a member of a Sunnyside school since middle school.
Candidates are not allowed to hold another pageant title from the time they sign the Candidate Contract until after their reign on the Miss Sunnyside Court.
You must carry at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA, and maintain a minimum current 2.8 GPA throughout the year if chosen for the court.
You must not have (or ever have had) a child and/or been pregnant.
You must not be married or ever have been married, including an annulment.
Commitment To Being A Candidate:
The Miss Sunnyside Board will meet with candidates and your parent(s)/guardian(s) for an informational meeting once you have been selected as a candidate. Practices will be once a week throughout the summer. Practices will consist of opening number choreography, freestyle, talent, and interview practice along with other important and fun activities. We will also be involved in public appearances, parades, and other activities that come along throughout the summer. Members of the board will chaperone events candidates are required to participate in throughout the candidate process. We expect that once a commitment is made, there will be no quitting before the pageant.
Candidate Expectations:
Each candidate is required to sell 500 raffle tickets ($1.00 each). Candidates may sell additional raffle tickets, for which they will receive 50% of those sales to be used to purchase personal pageant items. However, no funds will be dispersed until the sponsorship requirement has been fulfilled. Unsold tickets under the required amount will then become the candidate’s responsibility.
You must solicit your own sponsor(s). The minimum required sponsorship is $400.00. You are allowed only two sponsor names to be printed under your photograph in the program. You may have up to four sponsors. If there are more than two sponsors, their names will be printed on the back page of the program. All sponsor checks must be run through the program for auditing purposes.
At the Parent meeting, you and your Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will be required to sign a Candidate Contract which outlines expectations and conduct.
You must be responsible, respectful, positive, and exhibit good sportsmanship.
You must call a pageant director if you cannot attend a practice or will be late. A minimum of 48-hour notice of absence is required. Missing or being late to practices and activities will result in loss of pre-pageant points.
You may not participate in any other pageant while participating in the Miss Sunnyside Pageant or hold any other current title.
If a candidate chooses not to participate in the pageant, she will still be responsible for the $500 raffle tickets and must return all Miss Sunnyside materials.
The Rewards:
The new Miss Sunnyside receives a $1,500.00 scholarship upon completion of her year’s responsibilities and duties. Each Princess receives an $1,000.00 scholarship upon completion of their year’s responsibilities and duties. The scholarship amount may increase if a sponsor becomes responsible for this part of the program. The Miss Sunnyside Court also receives a Crown, Embroidered Sash, Official Attire, Crown Case, and luggage as they look forward to a busy and rewarding year representing their Community. Each non-finalist receives a $50.00 scholarship. Miss Congeniality receives the Leo Lopez Scholarship of $250.00 and a plaque. Miss Photogenic receives a plaque. All Candidates receive participation trophies. All scholarships are made payable to post secondary programs, including vocational and apprenticeship programs after the first term. Proof of successful completion of the first quarter/semester of college (unofficial transcript) and proof of enrollment in the next quarter/semester (class schedule) or expense receipts for vocational/apprenticeship programs are required.
Royalty Court Member Expectations:
Should you earn a position on the Miss Sunnyside Royalty Court, you are expected to commit to the Miss Sunnyside Program. Though we realize that young ladies are busy and we try to be flexible, this is a year long commitment. All Royalty Court Members are required to attend all Sunnyside events. This includes but not limited to: Trunk or Treat, Sunnyside Museum Open House, National Night Out, Spirit of Sunnyside Awards Banquet, fundraising events and parades. The Court Parents become members of the float crew and are all responsible for the building and transportation of the float for the parades. The Miss Sunnyside Board provides the funds for float construction, construction location, float truck and trailer, and gas expenses for the float truck. The Court and their Parents should plan to devote the YEAR of their reign to the Miss Sunnyside Program. The devotion of time on behalf of the Royalty and their parents will be so rich and rewarding to all. Truly, this will be a year that you will never forget and will always cherish.
